I've decided to make the backgrounds a mixture of 2D and 3D objects. Most animated objects will be in 2D. Most 3D objects will be still.

In the Ice mountain area you can find these lamps scattered around. The heat lamp turns Ice into water and the Ice lamp turns water into Ice, both only lasts 15 seconds so better be quick.
