In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Tall Trunk Galaxy "Tall Trunk's Big Slide" is a rlly good star bit farm. Get to the end with as many star bits you can, jump off the edge, and the star bits should carry over. Just make sure you get at least 1 1-up each time.
