There has been a lot of discussion on the differences between AAA and Indie. The differences are obvious. But I tend to think it's erroneous to compare the two. They are not on the same level. But I will reference AAA to get a point across... hopefully
Being indie, is being a mom and pop business. So it's important to have respect, learn some customer service, and be patient. You don't have to lay down and be walked over, but it's important to remember that people are watching.
Something AAA doesn't have to worry about is reputation.
EA ( Voted 5th most hated company in America: https://www.gamenguides.com/articles/ea-ranked-5-usa-worst-company-2018-911/) still made 5.1 billion last year. They made that money off trust. Fans are not committed to EA, they are committed to the games or the franchise.
So what does this have to do with indie (you and me)? There is a stigma attached to "indie". Players generally don't trust it. They don't trust early access, they don't trust the reviews, they don't trust the developers to complete the game. There are a lot of trust issues.
So be sure to talk to the people who engage with your game. Though it may not look like it, we are in an age of connection, and you are the face of an industry, not AAA, so it's important to communicate, listen and keep your word.
