our first gamejam ever
was quite the experience actually.
initially thought of entering by myself. venturing into uncharted territories. in KL they hosted a place for us game developers to come together and jam. it was quite a distance from where i lived, but i took a chance.
offered my students to become my partner. one of students voluntered. he was good student before, so i couldnt be more happier to get him on board. Faris was his name.
we discussed about several concepts beforet he actual gamejam started. as the theme was already out there, there were quite a number of weird ideas we had, until we finalized on this.
The Minion Bot.
an evil minion worked for the Evil Lord tasked to steal a precious power source from the good guys of Castle Light.
though we couldnt actually put in the story part in the game itself, it was merely on the description page.
we we’re both kinda unexperienced in these kinda stuffs. usually we would take quite a long time to finish something, but now in a gamejam, you’re forced to manage your project more wisely. you would learn to filter out unneeded things earlier in the project, cause you’re considering the time frame. 72 hours isnt a long time.
but im happy with the outcome though. it was hard as i wanted it to be. i hope it still had the replayibility that i’d imagined.
because the game is beatable. we didnt made it to be impossible to beat.
Faris was a good partner. he was my designer. and provided nearly all of the assets in the game. so the game art style was cute because of him, so kudos to Faris.
i’ve learned a lot in this game jam. hopefully, next time i could try to make a more simplified and more beautiful game.
a first step is a step none then less.
