In an alternative timeline during the events of Alpha Sapphire, May had failed to stop Team Aqua from unleashing Primal Kyogre onto the world, causing the planet to quickly be engulfed by the ocean. One by one, May's team drowned due to the unbearable tides, until the only Pokémon she had left was her trusty Roselia. As the Thorn Pokémon watched her beloved trainer slowly fall to the same fate the others had, she decided, as a way to possibly save them both, to use the move Ingrain on the both of them. The vines dragged them both down to the bottom of the ocean floor, seemingly sealing their fate. However, due to the move's healing abilities, they were unable to fully die, resulting in a fate worse than death. Now they suffer at the bottom of a world that has long forgotten them, unable to break free from the curse that Roselia had unknowingly brought upon themselves.
