Let’s have a talk shall we?
First off: A little introduction.
I’m J.
J189 for short (that’s how short works right?)
UNDERTALE is a game that has infatuated me like it has infatuated many others. For around 5 years now this game has taken over my mental space and left me changed ever since playing it.
Yes you read that correctly. Only 5 years. For those reading after posting, that’s about 5 years later than most, first being introduced in about 2020. My introduction to the fandom and fan-games had been even slower. But then I heard of the release of a little fan game you may have heard of, called UNDERTALE Yellow. It took a couple months after release for me to find the interest to give it a try, and it left its mark on me.
It’s now been over a 1.5+ years since then, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head, how a small group of determined people could make something so magnificent. So I began planning. Thinking. Writing. Notes upon notes of ideas, if I were to ever attempt such a task.
And now? Development has officially started. And I am very-very excited, fearfully hopeful, and cautiously optimistic about the journey we are about to go on together.
Why UNDERTALE Cyan?
When playing UNDERTALE Yellow and had decided to take on the effort of making my own game, I shortly thought through options before quickly landing on Cyan. It became immediately apparent to me how ripe with potential the past of the Underground was, and I began to ponder how Monsters would have lived back then, and what may have changed. The SOUL trait of Patience also happens to fit beautifully into the time period, where Monsters may have to learn some Patience if they ever wish to return to the surface.
It would be my pleasure to share this story with you, if you give me the time and the chance.
Aren’t I too late?
I know many people will say that there’s no hope. Too many talented individuals have already began their attempts at making an UNDERTALE Cyan. The genre has definitely increased in popularity in recent times.
And I’m not going to lie or anything; they may be better than I. They may come up with better stories, better games, and they may release them quicker.
But in the words of Toby Fox, ‘The Underground is a big as you want it to be. The only limit is your imagination.’
So I may not be the first, or the best, but I am committed to making what I am inspired to make, no matter how long it takes. And I’m committed to making *good* too.
Closing Remarks:
I am looking forward to continuing this process alongside you all, and I hope you will give me the time and the chance to make something that you will all enjoy.
Until our next encounter:
God bless,
Be filled with PATIENCE,
And I’ll see you soon.
