Key to Nowhere - FOSS tools!

Work, create and make digital art with open source tools is a good solution for us, the Indie makers; but sometimes( almost always ), preconception rules artists, developers.. and we can see that, for example, on events.

I work with open source tools since 2004, and up to now, when I go to an event, mainly design events, people look at you with that kind of “wtf”. I have some friends that say “oh, I have no courage to go to an event like that with a non mac notebook”; or ” I can not live withou Adobe Packages”…

Well, they forget that “they” are the artists, not the tools. Tools are just tools. I’ve worked many years with proprietary software, and liked a lot. No problems with then. When I decided to use open source, it was a ideological, and practical decision. I have no virus, I can take all potential of my computers, and of course, get authonomy to my productions, without depending on a company, or a “logo” to tell me when, how, why.

We can not be hostages of those companies, and smile to the world with a merchandise t-shirt as we are “the game winners”. Well, if you pay to then, they should use a t-shirt with your name, a computer with your name… and not the oposite.

We do, not then. You create, not then.

The softwares I use:

OS : GNU/Linux( Debian, Ubuntu )

2D/3D: Blender

2D: Synfig

Graphics: Inkscape( vector art ), Gimp

Audio: Audacity

Game Engine: Gdevelop
