Everyone has probably heard various opinions about @Taaryn 's demo of Five Nights at Freddy's: In Real Time. Whether you think the demo was poorly made and needed more work before release, or if you believe it was great and understand that mistakes happen in development, the criticism and negativity that Taaryn and his team faced for this demo were unacceptable. The constant harsh comments from fans and developers escalated to the point where it became more than just non-constructive critiscm. The Five Nights at Freddy's community owes them an apology.
When demos are released, they are not only for your entertainment but also for gathering valuable feedback. Developers release demos specifically to gather feedback from fans. They are interested in knowing what bugs were noticed, which mechanics were unclear, what most people liked or disliked, and what changes are needed. It is important to remember that it's counterproductive for the community to complain about fangames taking too long or not being the best they could be, and then bully a developer who has attempted to address every request, only falling short due to an honest lapse in judgment. The hypocrisy becomes especially apparent when this same community praises numerous other developers for perpetuating greed and/or mediocrity through their content, purely because of their status. This kind of hypocrisy is what has lead to a decline in fangames and developer motivation in the community.
Taaryn, just like everyone else in this community, is human. He, like all of us, will make mistakes, have misguided opinions, and may not always make the most sound decisions. It's important for us to support and guide him, especially during this challenging time. Let's help him and his team navigate through this period, encourage him to forgive the harsh grievances from the fanbase, move past the abysmal messages he has received on Twitter, and assist him in refining his vision for the game. Let's offer him words of kindness and provide constructive feedback to motivate him to release this game and all his future projects at their absolute best.
