Ditto Yuri
It was September 19, 2020. I was playing Doki Literature Club., as I was waiting for the mail carrier to arrive with my copy of Pokémon Ruby that I had bought on eBay for my Gameboy Advance. I heard the doorbell ring. I rushed to open the door. There was the mailman with my game in an oversized box. The mailman seemed nervous when he handed me the package. That made me nervous as well. But it doesn’t matter. I’m very excited to try out this game.
I ripped open the box, and it had what I had been waiting for all week: A slightly dented used copy of Pokémon Ruby, with Groudon and the official Nintendo sticker seal on it. For ten dollars, it was quite a steal. A deal of a lifetime. I boot up the game. I saw the Pokémon title screen. It was very impressive for its time. I played for hours, up until I saw another Pokémon Trainer, who looked very scared. So, I moved my character to her, and without pressing any buttons, she spoke, “Hey, I need to make a trade! This Pokémon scares me! I want to get rid of her!” So, I traded one of my two Zubats for the Pokémon. The girl then said, “Thank you so much! I hope you have a good day!” Then she went on her bike and rode away. I was confused. So, I opened my PokeDex, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.
The game was modded! Instead of a regular Pokémon, I saw Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club as my Pokémon. I felt scammed. Maybe it was the graphics, but her eyes were just black dots, and her mouth was just an empty smile with no teeth or tongue. Her face looked just like a Ditto, which would explain why her name was Ditto Yuri. Despite these problems, I kept playing the game. Half an hour later, I made it to Meteor Falls. I found a level 21 Solrock. I went towards to start a battle, but instead of my Mudskip appearing, ready to fight, Ditto Yuri took his place. That was weird. So, I checked what she does, and just like Ditto, her only move is transform. Even though I called the move, she didn’t transform. That was weirder. But she did rockslide, even though she didn’t transform. That was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen in a Pokémon game. I found a cave a few minutes later. So, I walked in it. The further I went, the darker it got. Then, I saw a switch. I was hesitant to flip it, But I thought, things can’t get any weirder…right? So, I flipped it. But things took a scary turn after I did. I saw a bunch of Pokémon Trainers dead! And I’m sure I saw a noose. Then, I saw Ditto Yuri. So, I started to look through my bag for her Pokeball. But while I was going through my bag, she revealed her hand, showing my she had the Pokeball. Then she spoke “Player, all of these Trainers are Trainers of other people that used to own this very cartridge. The last Trainer though, I didn’t have a chance to kill him. The second he saw me, turned off the game. He stopped playing before it was too late. He made the right choice. The girl Trainer you met who traded me. Well, she’s my slave. She used to own this very cartridge, too. But I gave her a choice: serve me or die. She chose to serve me. Unfortunately, you don’t have a choice. So, you better start running.
That’s when I moved, and I wasn’t walking like usual in-game. I was running. I even dropped my bag to run faster. Ditto Yuri was slowly getting closer to me. Then, I saw the light outside the cave. I barely escaped. She stopped chasing me. So, I stopped to catch my breath. Then I saw a pair of teeth coming after me. She was going to chomp on me! I got up to start running. But she had enough time to bite my legs. I tried to drag myself to safety. Then I saw the girl who traded Ditto Yuri to me “Help me! Please!,” I begged her. “I’m sorry, but Ditto Yuri is my master. I can’t help you,” she told me. Then I saw a giant rock fall out of the sky. That move was Rock Smash. And it fell on my head! Then my screen turned black. Then 5 seconds later, a message popped up, “Good night. Have cursed dreams.” Then my game turned black again. So, I switch cartridges to Fire Emblem-The Sacred Stones. But, when I booted the game, all there was is the girl’s sad face, a face of a dead Hypno, and Ditto Yuri’s creepy grinning face at the front, and on top of the screen had a message, saying, “You can’t escape me!” And that was the same deal with every game I tried. I decided to play Doki Doki Literature Club on my computer. When I started the game, it looked normal. No way Ditto Yuri can get in my computer. I pressed start.
The beginning of the game started out normal, with Sayori being late to walk to school, Mc - who is my character – was checking out some clubs to join. When Sayori took me to the literature club, however, things took a dark turn. Yuri wasn’t there, and the rest of the three club members (Monika, Natsuki and Sayori) acted like she never existed. So, when I got to the part where I would write a poem, only the Natsuki and Sayori sticker that would jump up when you picked a word that they liked were present. No Yuri sticker. Ditto Yuri couldn’t have gotten into my computer. My Game Boy Advance wasn’t connected to my computer in any way. But I kept playing. Then when I got to the part when the club members wanted me to pick who to help for the festival, Yuri’s option wasn’t available. So, I went to the characters file and Yuri’s file wasn’t there. So, at the end of Act 1, to the part of almost seeing Sayori already committed suicide, before I opened the door, I heard arguing. “Yuri don’t do this! I don’t know why you’re trying to kill us!”, screamed Sayori. “You know, when you ladies accepted me into your club, I felt accepted. But when you and the girls yelled ‘what happened to your face?,’ I felt like a bigger freak. So, that’s why.” “No! Please! Don’t!” “Farewell my good friend.” Then I heard a knife slash. “I know you’re there, player. Don’t worry. I’ll save you the sight of the blood.” After she said that, my game crashed. I thought it was best not to re-open the game, but my curiosity got the best of me, and I opened the game. This time, instead of seeing the girls from the club happy, Sayori was dead, cut in half, and Natsuki and Monika looked scared. When I clicked start, I got a message that said, “please don’t start the game.” This has never happened. So, I clicked no, but it started anyway. Then I saw a horrifying sight: Sayori’s half body was leaning against the wall, spilling with blood, and Natsuki was dead, all burnt-looking. Then Monika told me, “You need to get rid of Yuri. Destroy the cartridge. Destroy your computer. Destroy your devices. And destroy your accounts. That might get rid of her.” “You think that’ll stop me?,” screamed Ditto Yuri “I am a curse. He can’t get rid of me!” Then a giant stone flew across the screen, killing Monika. And my game crashed again. At that point, I knew that whatever game I played, Ditto Yuri was gonna be there. So, I thought a fighting game would be best, cause at least I’ll have a chance of getting rid of her. So, I opened Final Fantasy.
Just as I expected, Ditto Yuri was there. Before I attacked her, she told me this: “Player, I’m surprised. I have never met someone like you. After I killed those other Trainers, the players just got rid of the cartridge. They never tried to stop me. So, because you have the guts to stop me, I want to make a deal with you: I’ll play three games of your choice. If you win one of them, I’ll leave you alone. You can go on with your daily routine. Lose, however, you’ll be cursed with terrible nightmares every night, until you pass the cartridge to someone else. Do we have a deal?”
After she offered the deal, the game gave me two options: “Accept the deal or reject it.” I chose to accept it. I wanted to get rid of her. “Then let the games begin!,” announced Ditto Yuri. My characters and her fought. I tried my absolute hardest to defeat her, but with her Pokémon powers, she was too quick and powerful. She beat me within two minutes. “Ha ha ha!,” she taunted. “That’s your best shot?! Come on! Now next game.” So, I picked Super Mario 64, which I had an emulator for my computer. At least with Mario, I had a better chance at dodging. When I started the game, Mario looked nervous. I took Mario through the painting with the face of Ditto Yuri and teleported him to her. We started the fight. But, as soon as we started, I knew picking Mario 64 was a bad idea. Ditto Yuri was too tall to jump on and I couldn’t get Mario to grab her anywhere. “Not only are you bad, but you’re also dumb,” she taunted. “Last game. Last chance. Last shred of your sanity. So, I picked Sonic Colors. I 100% beat that game and had all the Chaos Emeralds. “Wow. These three games take a long time to beat. Don’t you ever go outside? Ready for our final battle?” Then we started the match. It was quite long and hard to finally beat her. “Wow. Smart choice. I guess I was wrong about you. You’re good. You’re smart. A deal’s a deal. I’ll leave you alone. Use your traits in life wisely.” Those were Ditto Yuri’s last words before the game crashed.
I opened Doki Literature Club to see what happened to the girls. When the game started, it was back to normal. So were the rest of my games. Then, I took the Pokémon Ruby cartridge and buried it outside in the backyard. Now, no one else will be in danger of Ditto Yuri…I hope.
