Loop’s guide to the “Frankenstein Method” of OC designing!

This is a guide to a method of OC designing I like to call the “Frankenstein Method”, also jokingly called the “Amalgam Method”! This will go over major examples of the method, and how it’s vital for designing OCs that are accurate to their original media’s style.

First off, what IS it?

The Frankenstein Method is a OC design method where you take pre-existing drawn renders of canon characters and mix certain elements together to make a base for an OC. Doing this method can lead to the appearance of the character to be more in line with the original media.

I commonly use this method with my Dandy’s World OCs, but it has been used with other OCs of mine, such as my Fundamental Paper Education OC, Miss Biol (but to a lesser extent).

Now, onto examples!

Funnily enough, there’s TWO whole examples of the “Frankenstein Method”. The “Cleanup” Method, and the “Stitching” Method.

The “Cleanup” Method is the most normal-looking out of the two. It still uses pre-existing renders, in this case being Goob and Rudie’s information card renders. In this method, unneeded details are cleaned up and covered, giving the base a more “cleaner” look, hence the name. The greatest example of this is Xiao the Dragon, shown above.

The “Stitching” Method, on the other hand, is why the “Frankenstein Method” is even CALLED that. This method has little to no cleanup, giving the base a horrifying look depending on what renders you use. This method is usually used for a more quicker design, as it’s more simple appearance after being traced is great for adding details later. The greatest example of this is Akiko the Lantern, shown above.

Now, why should you use the “Frankenstein Method”?

Using the “Frankenstein Method” can be great for a lot of things. The biggest thing being the style of the character! Using the pre-existing designs as a base and then adding some flare can make your character seemingly fit in with the canonical characters, making your character more accurate!

Below are both Xiao and Akiko after they had been finished. Looks pretty accurate to the information card style shown in Dandy’ World, right?

But anyway, that’s basically all! Thanks for reading about this stupid method I made for making OC designs :]
