Ok. It has now taken me more time to get this post-mortem writen than it took to make the actual game.
First place! Wow! It was hard to believe to be true, It still is. I was really excited and happy, but also some what terrified!
I spend a lot of time in indiesvspewdiepie to play other jam entries, watch gameplays, follow news on twitter and chat with other jammers. I think there were about 5 times when I came across something I was sure to be on the top. Of course I also kept hoping that there would be room after them in top10. But never did I see this coming.
We (Me and Krista) have been jamming before indiesvspewdiepie, (global game jams and ludum dares). I think Lorde of the Horde was the best entry we have yet submitted. And we both are proud of what we got done in 72h! But the game was still buggy, incomplete and somewhat clumsy. I don’t usually mind about these aspects in jam entries, but after hearing we had become #1, I became very conscious of these issues.
Top 5 things I am so f***ing sorry:
There is no prize for beating the game!
Level:”Minutes” is insane
No more humans -BUG.
The music will make you sick
I had time for only one mission type and no time for level design.
I feel like compared to some other Jam entries Lord of the Horde can be a crucial disappointment. And there is a fear what will happen when pewdie is going to play it. It is fun to watch pewdie get beaten by a hard game, it is not fun to watch game being broke and unfair. But beside all these fears there is of course positive things too.
Top 3 things I think were success:
Horde control gameplay mechanic
2.5D graphic style
Animations
My experience of GameJolt has also been amazing! I created an account here just to participate in the jam. Submitting the game was simple and easy. Commenting and playing other games even easier.
And the support from people in here has been so encouraging! All the positive feedback in comments and gameplay videos has given me strength and made me believe that there is potential in Lord of the Horde to be an actual game at some point!
I am currently working on Steam Greenlight plan. I will post more about it in the future.
Thank you all so much, We are so grateful for being a part of this!
