Hey everyone! I continue to be hard at work on Woodfall, adding new content at a rather astonishing pace (thanks to all the game assets already being made for the most part). I’m at a point where I feel confident saying you can expect the full game to launch in late September of this year. So, let’s talk about what I’ve been adding!
There are a whooooooole lot of new areas in Woodfall. Above you see the forest, which is one of the last places you explore in the game if you’re following the main quest (you can explore parts of it earlier during the “open world” part of the game). It was a lot of fun finally seeing this area come to life!
I also finally added the landfill, a pretty major area in the game. It’s (mostly) accessible from the very beginning of the game, but there’s a pretty tricky puzzle waiting for you to solve before you can really get into the main landfill area. If you enjoyed playing any of the games in the Myst series then I think you’re really going to like this puzzle.
The “Deep Landfill” is only accessible during a certain quest in the game, and depending on certain decisions you make it’s possible that you’ll never even end up getting out this far in the mountainous trash of Woodfall. That said, it’s one of my favorite areas in the game thus far. I don’t know… there’s just something oddly enchanting (or disturbing?) about the idea of navigating through a labyrinth of trash.
Oh, and speaking of choices you make, you will get the change to interrogate someone if you want to!
One last thing I’d like to talk about: new puzzles. I’ve tried my best to keep a healthy variety of puzzles in the game. Some are solved through dialog, others through collecting a certain item, and then others - like this one - are more classic Myst-like machine puzzles (can you tell I enjoyed Myst?). I decided to show you this puzzle for two reasons. First, it’s by far my favorite puzzle in the game thus far. It’s tricky, but goodness if it isn’t satisfying to figure it out (this is one I had to solve myself before tweaking certain aspects, which was cool). Second, this puzzle does a good job at combining the investigative element of the game with the puzzle element. In order to solve this puzzle you have to do some investigating in the Woodfall open world, then come back and try your hand at the puzzle when you’ve figured out what to do. It’s great fun.
I’m going to keep posting updates here on Game Jolt, and of course you can follow me on Twitter if you want to keep up that way. Like I said, the game should be released in late September. If you’re wondering about cost, I know for certain the game won’t be above $10. Also, I’m sure we’ll do a launch sale discount, too. Stay tuned… Woodfall is coming soon!
