Manage game access through keys

Easily provide access keys for press, testers, kickstarter rewards, and more!

With Marketplace, we finally have a good framework for you to start controlling access for your games through keys. I decided to take it a step further. You can now generate, distribute, group, track and export access keys at any time for your free and paid games!

You can access this new functionality while managing your game by clicking on Keys/Access.

Key Groups

Keys are created through “key groups”. This makes it easier for you to manage your keys, since there could technically be thousands for your game. Group your testers, press, friends, etc. and choose the access key type for that group.

Key Types

There are four types of keys you can create:

  • User: Only the Game Jolt users you specify will be able to access and claim your game. Useful for testers, friends, etc.

  • Claim-Only: Your game can only be accessed once the key is claimed by a Game Jolt user. Useful for key giveaways where you’d like only one person to be able to claim per key, but you don’t care who claims it.

  • Unrestricted (Anonymous): Anyone can access your game through the key page until the key has been claimed by a Game Jolt user. Useful for press keys, bundles, or any time you need to anonymously give out keys and see which have been claimed.

  • Unrestricted (Email): Behaves exactly like Unrestricted keys, except they can be retrieved at any time through a retrieval page by entering their email address. Useful for assigning keys for Kickstarter rewards, etc.

Access Control

For each key group, you’re able to designate which packages the keys will give access to. Rather than just one “download”, you can actually give them access to multiple packages. They will be able to view all packages available to them through the key page or on your game page if they’ve claimed the key into their own library.

Track your Keys

You can track when keys get viewed or claimed. This is handy to see when press are viewing your games (when they’ve clicked into your link) as well as any users that have claimed your game into their own library. You can revoke access to keys at any time, as well as export a .csv of all your keys.

Game Testers

With this release, there is now the ability to mark a package as “private”, allowing only people with key access to view and download the package.

To set up testers for your game:

  • First make sure you have a private package.

  • Create a new key group for your testers with the type of “User”.

  • Be sure to select your package when creating the key group.

  • Hand them their keys! Through those keys, they will gain access to your private tester package.

They are able to install your game through the Game Jolt Client and get auto-updates as well, so they’ll always be up to date with the latest tester version. Pretty slick!

Oof, got three sticker packs and got super unlucky with my drop rates for the star haha. I gotta master them all though!

Ah yes, programming documentation.

Modded a Game Gear! Took a long time, but I'm really happy with the results. New screen, speakers, shell, rechargeable batteries, all that. Even has an FM radio chip in it so that when it runs Master System games, it has better music.

Here we go!

My grumpy dog doing yoga.

Look where I'm at

All right, time to place my haul. I need mastery of these stickers.

My custom-made controller. Click click.

Ohh, what's this? You can see all the stickers in a sticker pack before buying/opening now. Finally.

After about 6 months, I started working on my custom controller again for retro gaming!

I designed the PCBs for the analog sticks, got them made, and check them out! They fit in perfectly.

Next step, building out the whole main PCB.
