Working on the reboot, I’ve come to a fork in the road; do I use realistic scales, which would make the sun 109x larger than the Earth, or scaling similar to GodSpace in its current state? And that’s not even mentioning asteroids, of which the largestc, Ceres, is a little less than 1/13 the size of the Earth, but is 1/3 of the total mass of all asteroids in our solar system. The average asteroid size in game would probably be around 1/40 Earth’s size, which would make them very tiny.
Also, the mass of the Sun is 333,000 times more than the Earth, which would mean I need to increase the distances between objects, making the levels very large, with a lot more empty space, making it tougher to find and see objects. I have a friend working on scaling similar to Spore, where you can make the whole solar system or just the Earth fit on the screen depending on how zoomed in you are, but this isn’t a guarentee.
What do you guys think? Should I do realistic scales, or scales that keep everything on screen better? If I do game scales, they will be a little closer to realistic, but very similar to their current state.
