Hello all!
This past month, our programmers have made significant progress on remaking the Ruins. It’s not too far until we’re ready to start something new. In early April, the first dev build was made to test out the revised fights. It included a few new features that weren’t present in the demo.
Change #1: The Animations
In the new engine, every animation has been smoothed or changed to look better. For this example, we will use everyone’s favorite anime-loving piece of paper, Crispy Scroll.
Old
New
As you can see, it’s a significant difference. Crispy it one of the most overhauled enemies animation-wise, so that’s why he is our model for this update.
Change #2: Low HP/Damaged States
The biggest addition to the fights are what we have named: ‘Low HP States’. This will occur when you damage an enemy past half of their healthbar. Their sprite, animation, and dialogue will change along with them being sparable out of fear.
Example
It isn’t a pretty sight, so you’ll feel a bit more when you hurt a monster.
Other miscellaneous additions include healthbar statuses in the textbox while selecting your target, the enemy field (top half of the screen) darkening when they are attacking, and two randomized monster reactions for every ACT.
Hopefully, this update provided a little insight on why we wanted to remake the first area/remake the engine. Most of the hard work is finished so we’ll all be building snowmen soon.
Until next time :)
