On November 25th, 2023, Michigan State hired Johnathan Smith. He replaced Mel Tucker as the head coach after Tucker was fired that past September.
2024: Led Michigan State to a 0-7 record after having 5 wins vacated.
2025: Led Michigan State to a 4-8 record. Was fired on November 30th, 2025. Had an overall record of 4-15 at Michigan State.
