One thing I don't really like about Shadow Gens is that the 2D levels are kind of linear and bland. They're still very fun, don't get me wrong, but they feel less like Sonic Generations and more like Frontiers cyberspace. I don't think I'll be going back to those often, easily the worst part about the game.
The 3D levels on the other hand are REALLY good imo. They're also pretty linear, but they're a lot more engaging than the 2D ones. Big step up from the 3D cyberspace levels in Frontiers. I'd even go as far as to say they're better than the 3D stages in Colors.
Also kinda off topic but I really like the fact that they turned Chaos Island into a level. I can tell they only did it because they already had the assets for it, but it's still pretty cool to see an open space get turned into a linear level. You don't see that very often.
