Monthly Devlog 1: Skills, Weapons, and Bullshit


Greetings you beautiful bastards, hope the new year's been treating you well. I've yet to be personally smited and so I am still working on this project. I intend to make these devlogs monthly as it seems a decent enough time for shit to actually get done, but concurrent enough so you guys don't think I went down the creek in a coffin. So without further ado, let's get into what I've been doing these past few weeks between Christmas and now.

To start off, I've actually finished with majority of the character's skills. My style of development has me make all the character's skills as one of the first things I end up doing, and so it feels nice that the non-generic ones are finally completed. For this accomplishment, have a small gallery of some of the skills you can expect in a demo or (hopefully) the whole ass game. So that's a thing. While I will add a buffer incase I change the skills or add more, the character specific ones should be done. The rest that needs to be added are going to be useable by every character (think of Scan from Complete Collection if you want a reference). Besides those glorious, animationless skills, I also completed all the character's weapons.

The character's weapons were a bit of a bitch to make. Not only because I had to put in actual effort to make my quality of sprites (which are questionable at best), but the amount of ideas I had were starting to run dry near the end, but I still pulled through goddamn it! To limit the amount of photos so that this doesn't become some sort of modern art gallery, I only included the section of the icon set that has all the weapons in the rows (sans the last 3). A few aren't he best to be honest, and I'll give someone a spot in the special thanks if they can guess what the fuck the last group of weapons are correctly, but they are going to be working for now.

In other news, I've got a list of boss songs I want to use for the camera system (because originality be damned, right?) that I made in, what I think, shows the gradual level of intensity rising. The songs are as follows:

-Tandava by Mudeth

-Invictus by Mudeth

-Fitnah by Mudeth

-Howl by Mudeth

-Rapturepunk by Mudeth

...So you can see how I listen to a lot of creators right? (While that is true, I actually did intentionally use the same creator for all of them)

I think that its about time to wrap up this devlog. I'll probably put out another test/alpha build in April to satiate the handful of you wanting this game. I'm also considering putting out an actual, big boy demo sometime in July, as that's when my birthday is. I'm not making promises that, that will happen, but it's the current goal of mine. I'll probably be working on finishing out the rest of skills so that I can get to making the enemies proper (I do his as I hate when fangames use the exact same skills as characters that hold 0 relation to each them. It was seriously bugging me how most of the enemies in CC3 did an attack with a wing when only a singular enemy in the entire game had a wing). I'll also be making so armor, trinkets, and shields for the lads as I'm pretty sure not of them want want to go fight god with nothing but their jimmy jams on.

TL;DR: Done with unique skills and weapons, will be working on finishing skills and making armor. Also made music choice for a subset of bosses.

I'm officially running out of steam writing this bitch, and so I'll see you glorious bastards in February!
