Hey Space Octopus Fans,
First of all, this month we hit 100k plays. Thank you to everyone that has played and shared this game. We never thought we would hit a milestone like this and are truly humbled by the outpouring of support.
This month was a rough one for us. Many of us got very sick and were out of commission for weeks. Things moved forward slower than we would have liked and we missed our first playable because of this. However that didn’t stop all progress and we did get some good work done.
A big push for us was getting the narrative in a good state. We worked on getting all of our narrative beats to help us map out what the player will experience. We also worked on defining our characters more and how they will interact with the player. Making a game that relies heavily on story makes it difficult to share everything we are doing with it, but we will work on introducing more of the world of Gracewind to you in future updates.
Art made some good progress as well. The new Watchtower massout is moving along and it is helping inform us how to make a more believable space for the player to explore and experience. Here are some shots of that.
So there is some sad news about the Asylum Jam this year. Unfortunately the organizer of the event had some things that came up that prevented them from running it this year. It’s a shame because it’s been an amazing jam for the past five years and were looking forward to it. However we wish nothing but the best to the organizer and hope things get better and see its return next year.
With that in mind, the Asylum Jam for us has been a yearly get together to hang out and make something fun. That is something we don’t want to skip this year. So we will still be doing an “Asylum Jam” this year from October 26th to October 28th. We welcome anyone else who is still wants to make an awesome Horror game. We will figure out what hashtag we will be using to represent this effort.
We are also going to be donating to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to help maintain the spirit of the jam of raising awareness of mental health and the bad tropes it has had in horror.
That was a lot of info to digest. I hope you enjoyed digging through it. This next month there won’t be a monthly update, but instead a focus on whatever game jam game we make. We hope to see you all on that adventure as well.
So stay tuned and until next time.
