While Game Jolt is not the right site to talk about certain unforseen events, I don't believe that it is proper to absolutely dismiss what has happened. Like you all, I am very much shocked and disappointed by the information I woke up to today.
The rest of the development team does not condone the actions by the people involved, and with that being said, a team re-adjustment will take place. The game will be worked on behind the shadows. While I am expecting certain leaks to pop up here and there, development will continue on as normal, and the entire team asks you that if you find a leak, you do not share these leaks any further. Do not ruin the hype for other people just because you found something about the game.
My heart goes out to everyone effected by the incident. I do hope that everything works out well on your ends.
Before we end this post, the team and I would like to answer some of the big questions from the fanbase, both related to the drama and the game itself:
Is Jolly 4 going to be cancelled because of the loss of a team member?
No, Jolly 4 will not be cancelled. While the removed member's input and feedback will be missed, their removal from the development of the game will not affect development progress at all, and will not cause a dramatic shift (or anywhere close) in how the game will play out.
Will there be an Android Port for Jolly 4?
To put it bluntly: No. There will not be an Android port. We apologize to those who have eagerly awaited an Android release every time after the announcement of a new game, but given the monumental size of the game, the game will be limited to Windows computers only, and will only be available on Gamejolt.
Is Jolly 4 the final game?
As it says in the game description, Jolly 4 is indeed the final game of the series. There will not be a Jolly 5, nor any spinoffs from the saga. After this game, Jolly and all of the story surrounding him, will be put to rest for good.
Is Jolly 4 being made in Unreal Engine?
The Jolly team has been experimenting with making the game in Unreal Engine for quite a while now, and we all wholeheartedly agreed that the story of the game will be showcased best if it was made in its original engine: Unreal Engine 4. However, a lot of fans expressed concern that they would not be able to play the game if it were made in Unreal Engine, worrying that their computer may not be able to run the game, or that they would not have enough storage space to download the game, knowing that Jolly 4 is a very big and ambitious game.
So what does this mean?
The Jolly team has moved the development of Jolly 4 back to the Clickteam engine. We believe that for the final game, every fan should be able to experience the game without issue or concern. We don't want to just size down the game to an optimal level so that everyone can play the Unreal Engine version, as that would mean leaving out chunks of gameplay and story that are all essential to understanding the game. While we apologize to everyone that was thrilled to finally play a Jolly game in a free-roam setting, we think it is for the best. No fan should be left out.
We would like to reassure you all, though, that nothing has changed. The game and its story are still completely the same, and you will be playing every single part of the game in the exact same areas, with the exact same characters, gameplay strategies, etc.. Nothing is different except for the development engine, and the free-roam. We will continue making the game in Clickteam, and we are more than thrilled to show you what we've gotten done.
You'll hear more from us sometime this summer, and until then, stay the course.
