I have no time aside school, but I've been increasingly interested in synths and sound building, due to listening to lots of Jean Michel Jarre stuff. I have all the synth plug-ins I need on Logic Pro, but at the same time I'd love to also touch real button, knobs, keys... you know
When I was smaller my dad used to have a whole area in the house dedicated to music production. He wasn't a music guru but apparently the motivation was enough to team up with a professional to set up a musical heaven. I unfortunately don't rememeber the specs, but I know for sure (after discussingit with my dad) there was a Nord Lead 3, a Fatar Keyboard linked to an Emu E4XT (a huge sample bank), a Roland D-5, all connected to a mixing table, into an old Macintosh desktop computer. Huge speakers (Dynaudio Acoustic). There were probably a few extra things, like a microphone but the rest I can't remember. You could definitely start making music with this! This was around 2005-2008
Back then we only had a small family macbook laptop, I didn't have access to centralized daw softwares, only started discovering GarageBand. But the synth setup was way more fun! So I hang out around that place a lot. Tweaked with sounds, listened to them for hours, explored the libraries. I ended up using the setup a lot more than my dad! (He didn't have that much time) With years the setup became smaller due to lack of space, and eventually got into the storage room.
Only a few years ago I asked him if he could bring me that iconic Nordlead 3 back. That was to me the most fun. And so he did. Still back in 2018 I had very small knowledge of sound designand modulation.
Until recently. Already doing ut in Logic Pro, why not give it a go in actual real life?
It's a lot more restricted of course, DAWs are capable of way more nowadays.
In 5 days the long Uni semester will be over and I'll be heading back to Austria to enjoy Christmas with my family!
And yes you guessed it, now that I know how the dozens of knobs work, I'll definitely jam on it a bit and create some whacky sounds!
I'm planning to connect the audio to my computer and add the effects inside Logic Pro! I'm so damn excited!!
I'll try to get some footage of it :)
Here, before the mega synth setup became a thing, this was me on the D-5 haha
