A long while ago, back in January of this year, I created a series of mod concept showcases for a fangame of DDLC called Doki Doki Literature Club: The New Guy!
The mod followed a simple premise: The classic story of DDLC told through the eyes of someone who couldn't really process it all that well.
Enter, Itsuki, our new protagonist.
Itsuki isn't as old, tall, handsome, mature, or understanding as MC from the original game, but he makes up for it in the cute factor. Itsuki was written to be the surrogate younger brother to Sayori and a character that no one could really hate. Itsuki was supposed to be a character that you were meant to feel bad for by the end of the story.
After months of it just being a concept, I bought Tyranobuilder and decided to turn it into a real game.
However, recently, about a month ago, I decided to cancel the game because it was something that I just couldn't figure out how to write correctly.
So, due to the fact that it's never coming out, let's talk about it!
This is one of the only images I have of the project... I saved it because I thought it was funny.
The context behind this is Yuri first meeting the new protagonist, getting nervous by how cute the MC is, and promptly blurting out... that.
This was supposed to be the menu, or at least an early version of it.
A scene where Yuri and Sayori get to your house at the exact same time, forcing you into a decision on who to walk to school with.
A scene where the little guys bond over liking the same series. (Natsuki is a manga-only reader, Itsuki is an anime-only watcher who's never read a page of manga in his life.)
Monika finds Itsuki's diary and finds out he finds her pretty. (Cute little Itsuki/Monika bonding moment.)
And, a very important thing to mention here is that the game is NOT a dating simulator, rather, it's a friendship simulator.
The game's message would've been that, a lot of the time, fanfiction guts the original meaning of a story to fit the writers narrative.
(Example: You go to DeviantArt and search for fanart of Monika, you end up finding NSFW artwork of her doing inappropriate things to MC even though in the game, she could care less about the MC, and only cares for the concept of being real through the player.)
I'm not saying all fanfiction is bad, but things that follow the example I provided are what I mean.
So... newer fans reading this... what do you think?
