a kid walks down the beach every day, hundreds of sea stars wash up on the shore. the kid picks up a bunch of sea stars and tosses them back into the ocean, he does this everyday for a while. one day while he's tossing sea stars into the ocean, a man walks up to him and says, "why are you doing this? every day hundreds of sea stars wash up on the beach, it's not gonna make a difference." the kid just picked up another sea star, tosses it into the water and says, "it mattered to that one."
