my opinion in regards to One Night at Freddy Fazbear's by @kazovsky

It is not very good in my opinion lol

Before i make this, honestly really long opinion, i want to state very clearly that i haven't actually finished the game, but i have played it for a bit before making this. obviously, i could tell that Kazovsky and his team did an amazing job and they put a LOT of work into this, i just want to make some criticisms about the game so Kazovsky can improve in his craft in the future. With that said, let's continue.

i have many smaller issues with the game, but i will only talk about the bigger issues(broken up into sections) so this article doesn't explode everyone computers when trying to open it. Why do i not like the game? well, i only have one description to give it:

"it's having an identity crisis right in front of me."

the visuals.

the visuals are probably the most striking part about this game, so I'll start with them. first, some good thing about them! the animatronics honestly look amazing and creepy af, but that's my problem with them. the original band of robots(OG FNAF 1) are the perfect balance of creepy and cutesy, in my opinion. in the right lighting, they look cute and lovable or they look creepy and even disturbing. ONAFF's version of the cast doesn't have that factor of creepy and cute at the same time, they're just scary. no kid is gonna walk up to one and be like, "Mommy, Mommy! can i hug the bunny?" the kid is just gonna look at bonnie like:

hq720.jpg

note that i don't know if they're only meant to be scary in universe as well :/

another thing about the visuals that i don't like is the environments. don't get me wrong, they are detailed and well modeled. but it's not that they are bad, they just derive from OG FNAF a little too much. they don't take their own risks with how the lighting is set up, or where the camera is in relative of the room, or even what is IN the room.

honestly, that's about it for the visuals. we can finally move on to...

the gameplay.

this might just be a 'me' thing, but i don't really like the 'one night' set up for fangames. obviously there are good examples of the 'one night' formula working well. but this is not really a good example. but let's break this into chucks to show off individual things that make the 'one night' format in this game not really good.

first, the animatronic mechanics. Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy work the same as the OG FNAF game, but Freddy doesn't for some reason. that's obviously not a problem for me, if i knew his mechanics in the first hour of the game :). this kinda leads into another problem, but the phone guy in this game is a C tier yapper. his filter they put on his voice is so strange, and just goofy at times. i don't know if it's meant to be scary or something. but because of the goofy filter, i can't pay attention to what he's saying at all. but as far as i know, he doesn't explain Freddy's new mechanic. "but what about the new 'game over' tips you can toggle on." i might hear you say. there shouldn't BE any tips if you explained his mechanic well, and the trial-and-error learning method was easier to actually do more 'trials.' you don't even have to explain in depth, you just need to give me some vague tip about him. honestly, the phone guy probably did give me some hints. but his FILTER makes it impossible to focus to what he's saying! if the only ways to learn how Freddy works is through either, a goofy sounding phone guy with a filter on his voice, or a box of text, i would just change Freddy's mechanic back to the OG mechanic. the 'one night' formula doesn't help with this either, because when you die, you go back to the beginning. this might sound like nothing, but if this game had 5 Full nights, Freddy would be put in the game play much later, and it would be okay if you died because you could just start back at the night he was added and you could do another 'trial' much easier. but what if you had to start back to night one when you died in a '5 night' formatted game, you would feel it wasn't fair and you would probably quit. that's how i feel about this game, every time i die, it doesn't feel like i made any progress.

another thing, for some reason, the time despairs at 3am or something. Why? why did you add a feature that makes it impossible to tell how much progress you made in the one night? every time i would die, it felt like i didn't make any progress. the time is there to let you know how much farther you had to go before you could finish the night. because of it's disappearance of the time, it feels like a slog to go through every 'trial.' it could be a fun addition in a night five or something, not to the one and only night this game has.

last thing about gameplay, it was extremely difficult to track the robots. not only because of the dark environment, not only because that the robots hide in the corners, but mostly because of the stupid FNAF+ scrolling mechanic for the cams. i hate it because of how god damn slow and annoying it was to move around the cams. the big ass camera map doesn't help either. if the cameras just moved like the OG FNAF cams, then this wouldn't have been an issue with me. an enemy in this game is Golden Freddy, and one of the many ways to get rid of him is to stare at him the cams, right? but you also have to move the cam to face him. but because of how fast he moves around from experience, it's extremely difficult to get rid of him normally WITH the camera scrolling. the fact that i can't learn how to get rid of Golden Freddy very well, because of him being a late addition to the night, and because if i die i reset to the beginning, is just another reason why i don't think this is a good example of the 'one night' format.

conclusion.

honestly, i didn't expect to actually finish this review, like at all. there's not much else to say other than what i already said. if you did read it, then you could probably see how many things similar to the original FNAF there are, and things that are not. it tries to be unique, but fails because it's scared to be unrecognizable from the source material. but that's okay. it's okay to be different from what you came from, just look at Graveyard Shifts at Freddy's! it's a remake, but it's VERY different from OG FNAF. but unfortunately, it's too scared to change much.

end.

i hope that this whole ass thing is even readable lol

Kazovsky? i hope you read this, and i hope it doesn't sound like me hating on the game. it has a LOT of potential, it just needs some changes. i will always support you and your team!

Thanks for reading!
