I was holding off on showcasing progress on the new engine. After all, additions to the engine aren't exactly exciting enough for a devlog. But I don't quite want to leave you guys hanging completely and I believe the new engine has reached the point where just showcasing what's finished might just be interesting enough.
There are some things I didn't showcase in this, such as a lot of cutscene and dialogue functionality. There are also two oversights in this video (one where the menu cursor is set to an incorrect value, one where stats are displayed incorrectly) that have been fixed since the video was recorded.
For more frequent peeks at how development is going, well, starting next week you'll be able to join the Discord Server again. I basically upload a screenshot or video there for every completed addition.
My goal with this new engine is to perfectly preserve the feel of the original game with near pixel-perfect accuracy, while remaining flexible for new additions, such as party members. Also I don't want the code to be as terrible as last time, so there's that.
