"Magnets"
Once, there was this god, that was at the brink of it's death. In order for it to combat it's death, it had to split it's soul into many small fragments. These fragments, when all of them are linked together, they will recreate the god, for it to live once more. Each fragment contains a part of the god's soul inside of it, and when the god is recreated, the souls become one again, and the god is truly reborn. However, a species known as the karats had found some of the fragments. While the higher class karats had put the ones they found into a deposit of them, created for the possible rebirth of the god, some lower class karat married couples had discovered that they could use the ability for the fragments to link together on themselves, but instead into one singular being. And so, as the fragments could be used to fuse each other into one being, the overly lustful decided that they wanted to fuse each other, not caring about the soul, or purpose of the fragments. And so, the karat government had dubbed these fragments "magnets", due to their ability to link and fuse together, and then outlawed the use of linking oneself with another with one, due to the souls in each magnet. They had then established a law where if someone is seen mishandling magnets, using them for welding in construction, or using them with another karat, they would be immediately unfused, and the magnets returned, and put into the magnet deposit, where they are kept, in hope that the god may be reborn in peace.
Boss Idea (somewhat political)
However, the reason the god hasn't fully formed yet is due to a couple truly determined to stay as one, the true magnet master, Karatow, the determined amalgam. He wasn't formed from much romantic feelings, he was instead formed from two members of the karat high society, who both were in the fusion due to them being fundamental to a karat political party yet dangerously distant for the party. So, as the party was at it's weakest point, the two most distant, they had decided that they would fuse themselves using magnets, and become the ruler of all karats, with no need for any political party at all. Of course, the karat higher authority found out, and they had him banished to a dimension sealed with a magical staff, for disrespecting the spirit of the god, committing treason, and refusing to give the magnets back and unfuse. And so, there he remained, sealed in the dimension, still fused, and as the deposit filled with magnets, one would be missing, for as long as Karatow had lived.
