Hi guys!
Now, I’ve just put up the newest patch for the demo. This brings a lot of neat changes which were really necessary. At the end of this devlog, I’m going to share some important news with you, so please read until the end!
Changelog:
Improvements to the game engine!
The textboxes now work even better and are more efficient.
Changed how the “select map” system works.
Fixed a bug where talking to the annoying dog as Underswap Sans would crash the game.
Added a way to get out of the login screen if for some reason something goes wrong.
Changed how saving works in multiplayer! Unfortunately, this means that saves have been reset again. There’s no way around it this time, the save system is entirely new! Don’t worry, I don’t intend for this to ever happen again for this demo.
Fixed a bug (hopefully) where you would sometimes get stuck on the login screen without being able to do anything after mashing the login button over and over.
Fixed a potential bug where FIGHTing an enemy encounter wouldn’t work right once you get past LV 20.
Added a warning screen that appears before joining Dirty Hacker Mode.
Added a Game Over screen that allows you to respawn after death.
Fixed a bug where it was possible to move while having PvP on or in AFK mode.
Fade-in effect added when a battle starts.
Extra admin stuff + security measures.
There ya go. Hopefully all these changes will suffice for a while.
Now, time for the important news.
I’ve decided that I’m not particularly fond of my Undertale fan-game engine anymore, and I don’t want to use it for the final game.
This means that I’m going to do an entire engine re-write, which may take months to complete. It’s better to do this engine change now before I start working on the singleplayer full-time.
A new engine means I’m pretty much starting all over again, except this time I still have a story planned, so it’s just the game’s code itself that’s getting restarted, not the story too, so it isn’t THAT bad.
But a new engine does mean that I have to remake the game all over again once it’s finished. Which means that the multiplayer you guys have come to know and love will be vastly different in the future (it’ll still use Game Maker Server though).
So what will become of this multiplayer demo? Let me tell you.
First, I can 100% guarantee that the VOID map used in this multiplayer demo will not be in the final game, it was never intended to be in the first place, but now you know for sure.
Second, the future RUINS and SURFACE maps I promised aren’t coming either, unless something changes. I’m sorry if you guys were excited for them, but it’s time to work on something more important! Why add more to a game with an engine I won’t use anymore?
Third, with a new engine that means I have to recreate PvP battles too, which may or may not be possible depending on how my future engine will work. I’ll do my best to add it back in, though! Who knows, it might become even better!
Fourth, this multiplayer demo will remain up until I have something new and better to give you guys, so don’t worry, you’ll be able to play this demo for a long time.
With all that being said, it’s time for me to say good-bye to this demo in terms of programming it. I’ll still come and join you guys in the game sometimes for a bit of fun, but for now I’m all finished with this.
Thanks for all the support guys. Now time to start work on the new engine! :D
