New version: better combat & city screens.

What is new?

Today, I have finally uploaded version 0.8 with once again some new functionality. Here is the list:

  • Added sound effects and background music to the game. If you do not like it, just press SHIFT + M to turn it off.

  • Allowed units to receive experience and level up. This means that you have to think twice about sending your experienced horse knight on a suicide mission.

  • Created a much better city screen, which gives you more information about which units to produce.

  • I tweaked the AI to make sure that they will only produce units that can actually be produced in that city.

  • And finally, i created a nice Combat Preview (like the combat screen in Fire Emblem / Advance Wars), that will allow you to determine your win chances and decide if you want to press forward!

By the way, what is the game actually?

Wait. you really don't know? Ok, here we go. Civilization Wars is a personal hobby project from me. My dream is to create a blend between Advance Wars / Fire Emblem on the one side and Civilization on the other side. Currently you can play a random map against 3 AI players. You can conquer cities, produce units and use them to eliminate the enemies.

You also have to take some small economy stuff into account. All your units use food, and you have to make sure that you have enough of it. Build the right buildings in your city to optimize your economy,

Where do we go next?

Well, the funny thing is, the more I am working on this game, the more difficult I find it to create a good blend between the two genres. Although in theory the games seem comparable, there is a huge difference between them and so far, the middle ground does not seem to be a viable road.

This means that i will probably give the game some more thought (while doing some minor AI fixes).
