Hello all
It's a little after the stroke of the new year as I type this
It's been a bit of a crazy annual period for me and I usually commemorate with sentimental Gamejolt posts talking about my life and how it relates to my silly little projects
I will uphold tradition and reflect on everything
REFLECTION: That's kind of dumb
So I'll just talk about my Undertale AU and if you want to read it you can
BECK
As some of you may know, I have been poking at an Underfell animation for a while
An original story set within the world of the original cool-ass blog, closely resembling an old animation that left an impact on the minds of Undertale fans for years after its release (you wouldn't believe me if I told you which one)
We follow the Greatest member of the cast as he learns the nature of his fragile universe and grows more powerful in body and mind to save his world from oblivion
Cool stuff and everything but this raises several questions
Underfell has a mostly laid-out story with no room for a "genocide" route like the one in Undertale. What the hell?
The genocide route outright *couldn't* happen in Underfell, there are lots of things preventing it. What the hell?
We don't know enough about how Underfell actually plays out to faithfully adapt its story. What the hell?
Well
This is a different point in the story
About a year before the blog, actually
The story isn't about Frisk, but the human that came before them, focusing on their acquisition of god-time-powers and how they decide to use them
The world is a little different than it is in the blog because of things that haven't happened yet
It's the best way there is to tell the story I want to tell
The kid's name is Beck
They're in the midst of their high school years
They're a bit weird and a lot quiet but they're not a bad kid
They fell into a cave full of monsters with nothing but a bowie knife, a lasso, and a revolving handgun loaded with four bullets
They have a SOUL that pulses gold with justice and a strong desire to do the right thing
That said, the "right thing" is a bit hard to figure out in a world like the one they live in
Most importantly to us, Beck is a person who does person things - they speak, they act, they have opinions and insight like anyone else
I wouldn't encourage trying to tell them what to do, some humans are okay with it but Beck is anything but
Why are you telling me this...?
There's no easy way to say this
A very popular game just released
It's brought a lot of old Undertale fans back to the community and is a ton of people's favourite fangame of all time now
It has a similar protagonist to Beck - same SOUL, same look, same weapon, and a rather similar personality
What I'm getting at is, I'm sure Beck very much seems like a ripoff of Clover from Undertale Yellow
...which is frustrating because the "most recent" human literally just serves my story the best and also I like cowboys
Beck has existed in some form for well over a year by now, the timing of Yellow's full release has just been supremely unfortunate for this project
I wouldn't say anything if Yellow weren't, like, *the* Undertale fangame
Rest assured, Beck's story is very different from just about any other human in any other Undertale story, and BLEAK goes a very different direction than Yellow in nearly every regard
For better or for worse
Anyways
Beck will face dangers on their quest
Some familiar, some less so
But I'm sure they'll complete their mission without too many hitches
What could possibly go wrong
(The story will cut between the perspectives of Papyrus and Beck - don't worry, if you were excited because of the our glorious guardsman)
That's all I have to say
Stay tuned
Happy new year
