Niravasi Devlog - 08/12/2020: Twisted Morality

Hey everyone,

Glad to see you're all keeping yourselves well during these bitter times. Currently the lockdown within the UK has ended and now more time to develop the game has become open to me. I should note, however, that things may change depending on if I land a full-time position or not. It's December, yes, but I'm hoping to land something sometime soon. Anyway, let's begin talking about today's topic; the sickening culture of Niravasi.

"Remnants of a horrifying past."

So let's get this out of the way for everyone reading this blog. Niravasi is going to be a very, VERY dark game in regards to narrative development. You probably already surmised that from all of the horrifying monster designs and creepy environments, but that's only scratching the surface of the story of Niravasi as a whole.

As I've stated before, the narrative of the game will be designed primarily in 3 ways. The first is the interactions between Mura and Clovis. With both characters communicating with each other, players can gain knowledge on the history of the city from the latter's perspective. It's current knowledge, but from the eyes of someone that wasn't a resident of the city in its prime-time. The second is the interactions between Mura and AEON, where the latter existed during the city's golden age, yet could only see it from an apathetic mindset. He is a machine, after all.

The 3rd and perhaps most important story development of the game is through the stories and artefacts left behind by the city's former residents. From Book Entries to Computer Terminals, the people that lived in this capital certainly had a lot to say about the culture and state of the city back then. And while I don't want to give too much away, let's just say that not all the residents were happy with how their city was being run.

To give you a brief example, let's just say that some officials in the city didn't exactly kill Antherians right off the bat. Some preferred keeping their company for their... value. In BLANK, I wanted to tackle slightly unnerving topics of conversation, but didn't feel like the effectiveness of them was going to be very effective. You were the very lynchpin of the story and that constructed a very strong power fantasy that was difficult to break. By design, you were made to be a Harbinger. Now things are different; you're mortal and are prey to the horrors of mortality.

Make no mistake; Niravasi's not going to pull any punches when it comes to tackling sensitive/moral topics. This was primarily a city that was formed on the backs of evil people and when you've finally reached the end of the game, I'll be interested to see if people believed what happened to the city was justified. And remember, everything you read and see in the city has already happened; you're just a ghost walking through the corpse of a dead city.

Anyway, that's all I have to say for this week. I'm really sorry that these Devlogs have been getting shorter and shorter, but I'm starting to run out of topics to discuss, so I'm grasping at straws for the moment. I'll think about what I want to talk about for next week's devlog, and hopefully I'll have the time to work on the game proper as well.

With that said, I hope you have a lovely week and I'll see you next Tuesday.

Kind regards,
King Sangos
