Hey everyone,
Last time I talked a little bit about the surrounding lore behind the world of Niravasi. While I did include some important details, there were others I either intentionally left out or hastily forgot to include (I blame Beyond Light's release for that).
Development's been going underway as per usual, but progress has admittedly slowed down a wee bit. Other developments IRL have begun and I've found myself having to devote some time to exploring jobs or other stuff of monetary value again. However, I'll try to pick up slack again as the days pass. But anyway, let me fill in your desires by focusing on another topic of development.
This week, I'll talk a bit about the characters you'll be meeting in Niravasi.
Your Best Friend: CLOVIS
"Do you respond?"
Shortly after the beginning of the game, Mura will receive a Handheld Radio that he can use throughout the game. On the receiving end of this device is a mysterious character named Clovis. I'm not gonna go into massive spoilers with his character arc, but I want you to know that you'll be able to speak with Clovis whenever you wish to.
Clovis as a character will be a guide of support for Mura as he ventures through the accursed city, as well as a source for extra story and lore details about the city of Niravasi and how it came to be.
The Others
"Can I answer no?"
In addition to Mura, there are other characters you'll be able to interact with earlier in the game. As I mentioned before, Mura was contracted by a company known as Willow Eugenics to assist in an exfiltration mission. You'll be working together with the 5th Platoon of the Fulyrian Military to accomplish. This team consist of 5 other individuals:
Lieutenant Elaine
Second Lieutenant Nick
Warrant Officer Budson
Pilot Lynx
Seraph Guard Rebecca
Each of these characters have their own personality quirks, but I'll leave it up to you to find out for yourselves.
The Inspiration
"Rude."
Early in the game's development, I wanted Niravasi to be a lonely game. Mura is essentially on his own for most of the time and I want to have the city itself develop him as a character, as well as become a vessel for scaring/unnerving the player with the dark horrors lurking within the city's wall.
However, I needed a reason for Mura to physically enter the city and I couldn't feasibly do that without creating a cast of characters that have a logical reason for going to Niravasi. Mura is an archaeologist and in many media pieces (Indiana Jones, Uncharted, Lara Croft, etc.), archaeologists come into contact with important business owners that are known to contract security/mercenary services to help out with their expedition projects. I wouldn't be surprised if an ultra-rich company like Willow Eugenics could buy out an entire military branch for their services.
As for Clovis, I wanted a character that Mura could always fall back on, as well as be a source of comfort. I don't want Niravasi to be overly scary all of the time, and Clovis can sometimes give players downtime to relax and chat. Though I would advise against calling him when enemies are around. There can be some strange side-effects with doing so.
Anyway, that's all I have for you guys for this week. Next week, I'll start going into what inspired the setting for Niravasi and why I've gone for an ancient city as a setting for a horror game.
Kind regards,
King Sangos
