I'm ever so grateful to say that the developer of Stuck At The Bunker offered to do a Q&A with me after I beat the game's True Nightmare max mode! If you haven't checked out Stuck At The Bunker yet, I'd highly recommend doing so (https://gamejolt.com/games/SATB/955904)!
Now to get to the point, here's the Q&A!
Q: Starting simple, what’s your personal favourite part of Stuck At The Bunker?
A: "The story unwrapping, getting to know each character, getting to know one of their struggles, and how all it ended with all of them dying because of their Master."
Q: What element of SATB was the easiest/hardest to implement?
A: "I belive the post night shifts, you see every render of the room is not a seperate sprite, they are all in one sprite. That means when you switch to a new room, the costume changes."
Q: What’s your favourite character and/or game mechanic from either Mason’s or SATB?
A: "Meta Knightmarion and mechanics revolving around cameras and knowledge of the mechanics once you got them."
Q: Which character was the easiest/hardest to model?
A: "Easiest was Deezer (Kirby/Sprinkes), hardest has to be Ennad due to his body being mostly melting strings connecting all over his body."
Q: Any characters or other game elements you wish/wanted to include in either Mason’s or SATB, that didn’t make the final cut?
A: "In terms of SATB, Orignally I wanted Wilson Night to be a bait n switch night in where after you complete the bait, the switch happens. But I decided to scrap it because I felt like it would take to much space."
"Originally the plans for night 3 were to go out like this: MK has a final talk with you and gives you a note for Night 4. After entering the room where all of the toons are merging there would have been a mini boss battle with Dedede, If I could recall I wanted him to look all melted due to the process of him merging with the rest. Flash him 3 times and he is gone, his battle would of played out like Meta Knights mechanic from Mason's but the character would change positions."
Q: Anything you would do differently if you were given the chance to change any part of series?
A: "Not really much tbh, I would update some mechanics to have a bit more to them. But thats all I have on my mind...."
Q: What’s your favourite part of making games as a whole?
A: "Getting to render and model everything, as well as having a team to chat with."
Q: What software do you use to help make your games?
A: "Game Engine is Turbowarp. Modeling, texturing, and rigging are all done in blender. And finalizing the render with special effects are done in Pixlr E."
Q: What originally inspired you to start making the Mason’s series? What inspired you to start making games?
A: "It all started back in 2020 with a little fnaf fangame I made on scratch called One Night At Marxfan2008's, it has aged badly ofc but it would kickstart where I am today. What inspired me to get into game development is when I first found out about scratch itself."
Q: How’d you come up with the plot/story of the Mason’s series? Were there any big changes made along the way?
A: "I just had ideas pop up in my head, along with going to many places that would inspire some aspects of the story of the whole series. Once we got to working on a new game, we come up with new ideas on how we should expand from the previous one."
Q: To finish us off, any teasers/hints you want to give us to look forward to for the upcoming Jokester’s Night 2.0?
A: "As of right now we just got done with JN 2.0, but I can say that we have added a new optional mode in there that limits the players vision."
As a bonus, I even got given some additional fun facts!
DeDeDe's model base comes from Kirby's Return To Dreamland Deluxe, while Meta Knightmarion's model base comes from Kirby and The Forgotten Land
All the hats that the Marxes wear come from the hat model for Kirby Star Allies
The Mason's series is a remake of a previous Marxfan2008's series; with Mason's being a remake of One Night At Mason's: Remarxed and Stuck At The Bunker being a remake of One Day At The Hideout
Jokester's Night 2.0 will be the third and final entry in the Mason's series (which I for one can't wait to check out when it releases!)
And that's all for the Q&A! Hope you enjoyed all this cool insight into Stuck At The Bunker and how it came to be. Thanks again to Marxfan2008 for not only making SATB, but also for being down for the Q&A in the first place!
