The main character in the manga, Black Jack, was so badly injured as a child that his limbs were dismembered, but he was saved by a doctor. The doctor's name was Jotaro Honma. Black Jack admired him and became a doctor.

When Black Jack became an adult, Dr. Honma's life was in danger due to an illness. Black Jack, a medical genius, tried to save him, but in the end, Dr. Honma never woke up from the anesthesia. The cause of death was senility.
