I already explained a bit in the description, but I’ll talk about it in more detail.
This is our first game jam so, yeah, we are pretty much noobs. I’ll blame Nicholas since he’s the one that invited me to participate, but actually it was everyone’s fault. We skimmed through the rules and didn’t realize that it clearly said that all visual assets needed to be made during the 3 days.
We used some stuff from the Unity Asset Store: the earth planet, the explosion particles, the laser particle, and some other stuff that I don’t recall right now.
The problem is that we only re-read the rules and realized the huge mistake when we already uploaded the game three times and only 2 hours remained till the deadline.
I gave up on participating. I wrote an explanation on the description and removed the dreamhackjam hashtag. Nicholas and Matthew didn’t, tho. They replaced most of the stuff with very simple models and some stuff was removed completely because it would take too much time to replace (mainly meteor and the laser animation of the alien ship).
You can see, for example that a lot of houses and trees are in the middle of the ocean because there was no time to reposition them. The explosion particles we just removed completely.
I tried to remove the screenshot from the description, but I think GameJolt has no option do to that. That’s why I mention it in the description.
We ended up managing to upload the stripped down version just about 30 seconds remaining on the jam’s page clock. Then I added the hashtag again.
So, yeah, what can you do? Stuff happens. I will unhide the “full” version after a couple days, however. So I hope you guys look forward to that!
That’s it, I wanted to share a bit about what happened. Thanks!
Thiago.
