I want to thank you all so much for all the support you all have given me. Being able to talk to you all with your feedback and very positive remarks have made me a very happy little boy. EDIT: Forgot to thank SmoggyChips, devilsnake88, Luxox005, Buzzooo2, hitmanx4sale, Whitend, ID-Daemon, FriskyNoodle, LinusPixel, TheBlack_ Konami, Kojima Produtions, my dad, Andrew, Sarah, Jordan, Caleb, Isaac, Calvin, Carson, Julian, Cristian, Alan, Cody, Holden, Hunter, etc. Thanks for reminding me, Thunder Anaconda! EDIT: Also, thanks to thepicprophet, Scavenger6, AttackHelicoptor, terminento, and BeastMaster420 for giving a ton of feedback. Thanks for reminding me, agaputo!
I also really don’t know if the next little part is under an NDA or something, I was never specified so I’ll just spout some facts but I’ll try to be really general, I guess? If any of you all at Konami want me to remove anything from the giant life story that I wrote, hmu
However, I have some really good news and really bad news. I got a phone call that I was expecting at about 5:00 A.M. from someone who worked at Konami. He essentially told me that he was very sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but I would have to take down my remake. I was told that he and many other people at Konami saw and really liked my remake, but legit due to legal issues that were out of his or anybody else’s control really, he had to ask me to take down my remake project. I said that I would be willing to do so, and from there, the conversation went from really bad for me to, in my personal opinion (I’m sure you all will have differing opinions), really really good.
He said that with the legal mumbo-jumbo (that he and no other Konami employee really had control of, it just really do be that way sometimes) being over, he could essentially talk directly to me. He told me that my remake was popular (which from the way he spoke, it sounded like it was very popular) around the office and that because of my remake, Konami had a strong resurgence of a desire to make legitimate games again (as opposed to Pachinko machines, mobile games, sports games, (which, I guess they’re all ‘legitimate games’ but you get what I’m saying) etc.).
He talked to me about what was going to happen after our phone call ended. There was going to be a short-term (within the next 5 or so days?) benefit and a long-term benefit (within the next couple of weeks, months, years). The short-term benefit would be some meeeerrrrrcchhhh (you all already know I spent over 180 hours working on this remake for some merch, amirite?) and some of Konami’s games. However, the long-term benefit is actually pretty gosh diggily darn nice. It hasn’t been made super official or anything, but a freakin’ internship for me with Konami in which I would do stuff with Konami US, EU, and Japan. Internships tend to turn into jobs fairly often and for a 17-year old who isn’t even a senior in high school just yet, to get this for the very first game project that he’s ever worked on with 6 hours of prior UE4 experience (and a fair amount of Unity experience (35 hours give or take) but that’s irrelevant :P), that’s pretty good.
However, what does this mean for you all? Well, unfortunately, PT for PC will have to be taken down. From the people that I have spoken to over at Konami, it legitimately seems like it was none of the employee’s faults (from what I understand, everyone over there loved my remake), it was legit just a legal thing that was beyond anybody’s control. However, my remake will not be in vain, for even though Konami had to take down my remake, they are, in my opinion, definitely making up for it. However, I can surely understand that you all are disappointed. Not gonna lie, I’m a little disappointed, too (though I’m not mad. I would understand if you all are mad, tho). Especially by the timing. Like, I just got all the animations (which as many of you all know, were essentially the ‘final piece’ to making the game not just 100% playable but 100% gameplay accurate) 2 days ago. I was expecting v0.9.5 to come out on Sunday and all I would have needed to make adjustments to from that point on would have been some minor lighting tweaks, the rain, the cockroaches, a few missing textures, etc. Also, I wondered why it was that my remake was the one that was taken down, not the dozens of other attempts that were never able to finish. Maybe it was because I was so close to completion? Maybe it was because of how popular it became (btw, Polygon and every other game news site never asked me for permission to write an article on me and my remake, but I don’t care, I forgive you all, what’s done is done)? However, I realize that I should actually be pretty thankful that mine was chosen to be the one to get taken down because if it were someone else’s, then I would still be just chilling in my home with no idea on what I want to do in the future and whatnot, but even if it still is really unfortunate that mine was taken down when it was so close to being done, (and I mean holy nut it was close) it has given me a really awesome opportunity.
I feel like a giant burden (even though I’m the one who chose to do this remake, nobody made me but still) has been lifted off of my shoulders because I can just let it go. I no longer have to worry about if I’m going to get sued or anything because what’s done is done (and what was done ended up being really good for me). As I said, I would have loved to finish the game, but I simply can’t. I hope this isn’t an issue with Konami, but I still intend to keep my promise on being the first one to finish a PT remake just to show it to my dad to make him extra proud. Fr though, I’m personally surprised that Konami acted this way, I was really scared that they would just hit me up with a C&D and that would be it but nah, they politely called me to take it down and they’re giving me a freaking internship dude what even is that. Like, SEGA also probably would have done an internship or something if I did something similar but Nintendo would have never let that happen, they would have taken me down and not even send me any kind words or anything, they’d probably (idk entirely but I’ve heard numerous stories) just ruin me and leave.
But yeah, while I got hit with that oof, it seems like Konami will be able to turn things around and turn that fat oof into a foo taf. Also, there’s a picture of me below in case if anybody is interested in what I look like. It says “Do Not Copy” on the little picture but just like what I was doing for PT, that’s exactly what I did with the picture lol. I’m responding to any comments, hmu and I’ll respond with whatever. Idk what I intend on doing next, I guess I’ll just chillax for the time being and spend some time learning some more about using Blender, 3DS Max, and Substance or something idk. I guess the next time you all see me will be on my YouTube at youtube.com/FlyingLaptop or my Twitch at twitch.tv/cromwellsimon or maybe doing some other game at Konami or something else, I really don’t know. Thank you all so much :)
Tldr; Konami is having me take down my game but they are being extremely cool about things, like way more than I or possibly anybody else was expecting like fr
EDIT: Apparently, my picture never actually showed up which is awkward, so I just put a link down for it
