Hi everyone,
Update 1.0.2 is out! This update should fix some bugs like the music not playing after some battles, some unexpected game crashes/closes, and some other things but I haven't been able to verify them, as Emil gave this build and then had to go somewhere. We'll continue fixing issues soon when he gets back, including some more major balance changes that people have recommended!
We're aware of some bugs that haven't been fixed yet, like:
Coins in the overworld not reappearing when starting a new game.
The credits screen not being in the game (anywhere lol)
Some layering issues with props appearing in front of Popgoes.
We'll be working on fixing these, and more, soon.
I'm going to answer some non-spoiler and some spoilery questions in this article to help people out.
Non-spoiler questions:
Q: What is used for "select"?
A: Space bar.
Q: How do I go fullscreen?
A: Alt+Enter.
Q: Where are the shops? I keep dying to a hedgehog!
A: Look for openings in the trees. The path on the floor shows you where your objective is, but you should stray off the path to find coins, shops, and inns.
Q: Enemies are too common! / Enemies are too uncommon!
A: Enemy spawning is very random. Some enemies spawn more than others (there are common, uncommon, and rare enemies in each area). It's COMPLETE luck. Some people might encounter 50 enemies in the Autumn Forest, and some might encounter 10!
Q: My save file is corrupt!
A: We've noticed some save files being corrupt when updating the game. If your save file is corrupt, then you'll need to manually delete it from your computer. To do this, access your AppData folder (you can do this by pressing Windows Key and R to open the "run" option, and then entering "%appdata%" without the quotes. In the AppData folder there should be a POPGOES Arcade 2020 folder. Open that and delete the game.save file. Then open the game again. Unfortunately if you have progress on your game, you won't be able to recover your progress. We're aiming to patch out all save file corruptions. We're sorry if you encountered this!
Spoiler questions:
Q: How do I defeat the minibosses?
A: Each miniboss has a unique ability that charges every third turn. Chica is "defense", and she will charge a jump every third turn. You should focus on upgrading your attack for her. Foxy is "offense", and he will land an extremely strong hook attack every third turn. You should focus on health upgrades and shield items for him. Bonnie is "support", and he will heal 25% of his max HP every third turn. You should also focus on high damage output for him. If you are on the second phase of enemies, you should look into fully upgrading your hook ability to defeat Dead Bonnie.
Q: How do I do BB's hitlists once I turn off the beam for an area?
A: Unfortunately if you turn off a forest's beam, enemies will permanently stop spawning in that area, making the hitlists impossible. This is something we designed deliberately, because the idea of Popgoes turning the beams back on made him feel evil. You don't need to complete BB's hitlists to beat the game, but if you want to reach 100%, then you should wait until you complete the hitlists before saving each forest. We might update this in the future so that you can turn the beams back on.
Q: Can I get "Bonnie" to attack me with the jumpscare after I spare her in the glitch battle?
A: If you successfully "save" Bonnie, then she will no longer haunt the arcade machine. She's gone. You can't battle her unless you start a new game. Thankfully, the jumpscare is NOT an "ending" and it doesn't affect your progression. It's just how you "lose" that fight. We won't be changing this.
Q: Where is the last emerald?
A: A few people have struggled with finding the last emerald, and 99% of the time it's because they haven't spoken to Sara. Speak to Sara in the Garden Inn!
