Yes, I’m not joking.
Hey everyone, just dropping by to let you all know that I am PLANNING to release Peace Keeper tomorrow on Halloween.
Now of course by planning that doesn’t mean I am 100% guaranteeing a nice safe launch and I’ll briefly explain why.
For people who may be unaware, Peace Keeper is a content patch, it’s not an entirely new game and to develop this update I had to use the original project file for TNSR and because of how long it had been since I had touched that file I forgot a lot of code that I did which meant I had to get my self back to working form. What I’m trying to say is that I expect a lot of bugs with save files and stuff.
I had someone test out the game for the first time today and I found so many issues soley with save files, luckily I seemed to have fixed all those issues. I don’t want to release a really buggy update so if there is any serious bugs people find then let me know in the comments or message me in the Community Discord. You’re more likely to get to me using the Discord as I always forget to check Gamejolt.
Anyway enough of the boring stuff, time for the somewhat complete Patch Notes!
Patch Notes
I’m going to split a lot of this into sections to help organise it more.
Content
Hardcore Mode
This is by far the biggest feature in the whole update. Hardcore makes things..harder, shocker..but what it also does is change a lot of story stuff. I like to treat Hardcore Mode as a different route entirely.
There are new Phone Calls voiced by me (Please don’t insult my voice I tried my best! k thx) with a certain character that tell a story.
There is also a new ending for people who want to torture themselves with Magician’s Challenge on Hardcore Mode. (Spoilers: It’s hell.)
I’ll also briefly mention that the endings are the same up until Magician’s Challenge so don’t be alarmed if you end up with the original endings on Night 5 and Night 6.
Hardcore also adds 3 extra stars including the “Big Red Star”.
There’s a few scrapped things for example a proper Quest line along side the basic goal that didn’t make it simply because I was unsure of how I’d actually go about putting it in the game and thought that I didn’t really have the time to be messing around with something like that.
To unlock Hardcore Mode, you must of atleast beaten Night 5
Polish, lots and lots of polish..
I’d say the biggest thing I focused on while developing this update is definitely the polish, mainly to the UI. I felt that the original UI whilst very classic and simple really just..wasn’t that good so I redid a few things.
New Menu Screen
This one was pretty difficult but I have to say i’m very proud of the outcome.
Here is a nice list of all the stuff changed on the menu…being..basically everything.
Overhaul to the UI
The logo and text now have a new look to them, making the logo was very fun, however redoing all the text was certainly not. Oh yeah and now the logo zooms in and out…very nice effect.
Iggy 2.0 and 3.0 have been removed from the menu (They’re still in the game) and replaced by a new Krug model made by Guy3212.
Animated Background with Pumpkins in the Parts Room.
The Pumpkins may or may not be removed after a while. Not sure.
Thunder and Lightning crash across the land
Lightning will randomly strike on the Main Menu now.
New Musical Theme
I’ve been hard at work with music and decided to make a new menu theme for Halloween called “Peace Keeper” which you can listen to here. (Slightly muffled in comparison to the actual game though.)
Night Changes
I have polished up a few different parts of the Nights however gameplay stays the same as before.
Night Start tunes have been completely remade.
Quick little thing to note here is that if you play Hardcore there are completely different Night Start effects to the ones on Normal Mode.
When Krug is nearby a little musical tune will play indicating his position.
Voice related stuff
New Phone Guy Voice for Hardcore Mode
All-New Krug Lines
Couple New Easter Eggs
Not much to be said here, we all love Easter Eggs.
Let me explain a few things.
This may be a bit of an underwhelming update for some of you.
I did have a lot more planned for this update including differences other than just changing difficulty on Hardcore Mode however due to time constraints and some other things I just didn’t get them done. I really would like to move on from this project and work on something more modern without models that are over 2 years old by now.
The long wait was simply due to a lack of motivation, if you’re new here..you’ll hear this a lot by me. There’s times where I just cannot be motivated and I just want to sit back and play some games or sleep. When I first started working on Peace Keeper the first proper thing I targeted was the voice lines for the new Phone Guy and when I had some time I’d pretty much force my self to work on them as I hated wasting that time playing games as much as I’d much rather do that. What didn’t help is that I set a date too early. Lots of personal stuff was going on in June-August which affected my work speed a lot and Post-August I just couldn’t work as I was too depressed.
The reasons above could also be a part of why my voice lines for the new Phone Guy were pretty..meh? Maybe it’s just a creator thing where they think a lot of their stuff is bad if it has one flaw.
Canon or Not Canon?
Here is a final remark on this as it might help out a bit. Make what you want of the story in this update. I really didn’t know where I wanted to take the story with this update but I consider this a bridge to another project whether I consider it canon or not canon.
So make what you will of this, this update was mainly a fun little project I wanted to try out. I’m still planning on continuing Magician’s Surprise Trio. I’m going to definitely take a break inbetween projects though. :)
As always thanks for all the support everyone, see you all tomorrow!(hopefully, fingers crossed)
