Matt Campbell’s career at Iowa State
On November 29, 2015, Iowa State hired Matt Campbell to be their next head coach. He replaced Paul Rhoads as the new head coach.
2016: Led Iowa State to a 2-7 record.
2017: Led Iowa State to an 8-5 record. Won the Liberty Bowl 21-20 vs Memphis.
2018: Led Iowa State to an 8-5 record. Lost the Alamo Bowl 28-26 to Washington State.
2019: Led Iowa State to a 7-6 record. Lost the Camping World Bowl 33-9 to Notre Dame.
2020: Led Iowa State to a 9-3 record and a #9 ranking to finish the season. Lost the Big 12 Championship 27-21 to Oklahoma. Won the Fiesta Bowl 34-17 vs Oregon.
2021: Led Iowa State to a 7-6 record. Lost the Cheez-It Bowl 20-13 to Clemson.
2022: Led Iowa State to a 4-8 record.
2023: Led Iowa State to a 7-6 record. Lost the Liberty Bowl 36-26 to Memphis.
2024: Led Iowa State to an 11-3 record and a #15 ranking to finish the season. Lost the Big 12 Championship 45-19 vs Arizona State. Won the Pop Tarts Bowl 42-41 vs Miami FL.
2025: Led Iowa State to an 8-4 record, clinching a bowl game. He will not coach them in their bowl game. Had an overall record of 72-55, with 2 Big 12 Championship appearances, 7 bowl game appearances, and 3 bowl game wins.
2026: Will be the head coach for Penn State.
