Pentagun Beta [Weeklies]

What is Pentagun, even? It is a top-down, 2D shooter. The goal is simple: shoot everything you see.

Right now, Pentagun is very simple. There is are only two weapons: a primary weapon (fires constantly), and one special weapon, a missile that has a slow recharge until next use.

In addition, while there are technically five enemy types (all seen at the main menu), only 3 are in the test level. The other two are not present simply because I’ve not yet developed them beyond their sprites.

Two weapons, three enemies, one short level. That’s all that Beta 1.0 consists of.

Now, what does the term “Weeklies” in the title mean? Every week (on Fridays), the game will receive an update (Beta 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc) until it is 100% complete. So, here is what you can expect in the Beta 1.1 update:

-Performance improvements
-4 new enemies, 2 of which will be vastly different in appearence.
-1 new special weapon, which will require adjusting the damage level of the Missile.
-Rebalancing the audio
-Redesiging the level. For now, I’m only aiming to make it longer.
-Fixing some typos (I misspelled ‘Missile’ a lot).
-Fixes for a few minor glitches.

So now that my goals for only the next update are laid out, what about the game as a whole? Here is what I hope to accomplish by the time Pentagun is 100% complete (right now I’d say it’s only 15% complete):

-An in-game guide that’ll show all the enemy types and what they do, as well as what weapons are available to you, and how much damage they do.

-10 or more enemies that all behave differently, some may even shoot at your defenses, which brings me to the next one:

-Defenses. Walls, mines, etc that’ll be laid out in front of you to protect you from enemies, until they’ve all been destroyed. This would require reworking how the game determines when you’ve lost.

-Better sound design. This one may be unlikely because GameMaker has some frustrating quirks when it comes to sounds.

-Fluid menu system.

-Informational, but simple, user interface

-4 special weapons, with varying recharge rates.

-Temporary powerups to improve the performance of your primary weapon.

-At least one Boss battle.

I want at least 75% of all that to be included with Pentagun’s final release.

That is all.

Let me introduce you to the new Mech line: Gendai Spec. Those are Mech that specializes in surprise attacks, covered operations, and stealth. They are equipped with melee weapons but one of Gendai's frames supports sniper rifles.
