The Threshold
So, hi! I know it's been a while. Looking at my previous post I see it's been anywhere between one to two months since I posted last. Hopefully from this video you can see that I haven't just been doing nothing the whole time.
I'm getting back into making this game again and I'm generally feeling happy about it. There was a little bit of time there where I just couldn't work on it whatsoever. I had to step back and do something else in the meantime. Making games isn't the only thing I like to do. I'm really into writing, specifically comics. I've made comics ever since I was in fifth grade elementary, so that's what I decided to do while I was taking a break from this game. I only made about five pages for the comic I'm working on but that was enough to get me back in a good mood to work on my game.
So here we are.
I'm going to do these posts a little differently from now on. Making gifs takes more time than I'd like it too, so instead I thought putting a simple video at the top showing off the things I've been doing would be more effective. These types of videos originate from the Pashango Productions YouTube channel. If you're at all interested in actually seeing how the game is coming about other than these posts, I'll post videos there. Here's a direct link to that channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_qZF4ep-h-PPNzuD8PN-Fw.
Black and White And Gray
Anyway, let's take a look at some of the things in the video. We can see everything is black and white and gray. This area of the game is going to be called the Threshold. In other words, this section is the "dream" sequences I've been talking about. Some things to note about the Threshold is that most things are not in color. I say most things because the next thing I'm working on involves there being color in the Threshold. You will see what I mean.
The background is not staying the way it is now. I hate it. Well, I don't completely hate it, but it was always going to be a temporary thing until I stopped being lazy and actually made a decent background. I'm not talking about the tree cloud things though. I actually like those, so they shall stay.
At the end of the initial walkway, we are met with the second pig to appear in the game (if you don't count the fifty thousand pigs that walk endlessly on the title screen). I don't have an official name for her yet. I was going to have an official name for her today or yesterday, but that didn't pan out. I should have a name in another week or two. I know I'm being unnecessarily cryptic about what the hell I'm talking about, but that's all part of the fun of posts like these.
This pig (we shall just call her Big Pig for now) is an essential part of the Threshold. She is the one who helps train Ehh in using his magical powers. That is all I shall say about that, because there really isn't more you need to know about her at the moment.
Another thing of note here is that Big Pig is the only one who can speak in the Threshold. Ehh does not have the ability to talk at all, which can obviously be frustrating.
In Conclusion...
That's all there is to the Threshold at the moment. In the video I selected the choice to wait instead of going ahead with training. I will say that I have already started developing the part of the game where Ehh does train with Big Pig. That will probably be the focus of my next post, unless I stop being lazy and make some more music for the game. I really need to get an electronic keyboard or something to use for that. Right now I'm literally just doing what I can with my laptop by itself, which takes up some time.
Sorry again about the sporadic nature of these posts going forward. That being said, I hopefully will stop apologizing for doing that now. The game will get done as fast as it gets done. Hope you had a good time reading this. I'm going to get some ice cream. I did just have a cookie earlier, but it was disappointing. They only had a Reese's cookie. Don't get me wrong, I like Reese's peanut butter cups, but I was really looking forward to a triple chocolate chip cookie. For context, I also had a triple chocolate chip cookie yesterday. Yay, cookies.
Cookies are my life,
Joshua
