I've been here almost 10 years and this website has changed my life. In 2012 I first discovered Game Jolt after searching long and hard for a place to put my silly creations. Yoyo games sandbox was dead, and I just couldn’t find anything else like it, but then I found Game Jolt. I joined and instantly loved the site; I was able to put my games here without restriction and meet and talk with very talented members of the community. The years following, I would make many friends on Game Jolt some of which I’m still friends with to this day. Eventually I started to get to know the community very well and became very invested in Game Jolt and started helping where I could and in October 2014, I became a moderator. For the next 3 years I spent countless hours managing the community, moderating users, games, forums, and chat. I would often spend most of the night monitoring Game Jolt.
In March 2016 I made Mr. Whale a chat bot, which was based on an inside joke we had in the public chats. Most users came to love the bot and I loved spending my time creating it. In 2017 however I stepped down as moderator as other things in my life took priority.
In 2020 I was contracted by Game Jolt as a web developer to create the new chat system on Game Jolt. For the next 6 months I helped develop the group chat system on Game Jolt and had a lot of fun doing so. I think what the Game Jolt team and I developed was solid overall and I was very happy with it. I then decided to rewrite Mr. Whale for the new chat and what a fun experience that has been. A lot of the community have shown their support for Mr. Whale and I’m very grateful and pleased. In the same year I also wrote joltite.js which is JavaScript library for the Game Jolt API and I consider this my last major contribution to Game Jolt.
However lately I’ve been drifting away from Game Jolt as other things have taken priority in my life and today after all this I join the Game Jolt discord server and immediately get kicked without good reason. This has confirmed to me just how different this community has become and I feel like I’m no longer welcome or a part of it.
I’m no longer going to support Mr. Whale and I’m saying my final goodbyes.
Farewell Game Jolt, thank you for the memories it was really fun.
