Welcome to the first weekly “Monday Lookahead” for The Ballad of Lone Phoenix. Each Monday I’ll be looking ahead at what needs to be done.
This week, I’ll discuss what I’ll be doing to prepare for the pre-alpha build that I’ll be releasing soon. First, a general overview of what I need to finish before the demo is released, and then I’ll go into a more detailed description of each aspect.
I need to finish programming the townspeople AI
I’d like to have some sort of story that demonstrates how repeating the day will work
And finish the art and programming for the new enemy
Playtesting and other random stuff
1. Finish programming the townspeople AI
Unfortunately, the work I have previously done on the townspeople AI will need to be reworked. I thought everything was working when I planned on releasing the alpha this week, but I was wrong. So last Friday I spent most of the day reworking the AI and I’ll probably need to spend most of today and some of tomorrow to finish it up. I don’t want to have to rework anything in the future, so I’m making sure everything works perfectly before I move on.
2. A short story for the demo
The Ballad of Lone Phoenix will have a unique story with a unique way to tell the story. So I want to showcase that. There’s no way I’ll be able to complete the entire game’s storyline in just a couple days, but I’d like to have some sort of story that will take a couple repetitions of the day to complete.
3. Finish a new enemy
Currently there are only 3 enemies in the game. None of them are very difficult to kill, so I’d like to have another enemy that is more of a challenge. An enemy that you see and instantly recognize as something special.
4. Playtesting and other stuff
Despite the fact that it will just be a pre-alpha, I want everything to work. So I’ll be doing quite a bit of playtesting and tiny polishing during the week as I work on everything else.
Well, talking about doing all this makes me want to get to work. So I’ll get back to work now.
Thanks for reading
