Back again with another news update on “My Only”. Some good progress was made over the weekend, so lets get into it.
The first of the two major paths in the game has been finalized now (after being further expanded upon as well). The second path has been built, but requires additional work as well as being combined with another level for logical placement. It shouldn’t take too long to do, but just needs some more time none the less.
As well, the first/main entity of the game has been fully intigrated. Of course, I’m not going to spoil it for you, but just know it’s there and working. As well, unlike most horror games, you actually have an HP system of sorts. When you take damage, your vision blurs and darkens for a short period of time. If you sustain damage again during this time, then you die. Otherwise, once the effects disappear, you can take another hit (Also, performing certain events and collecting some items will remove the effect as well). This is done mainly because death and challenge are not the focus of this game over atmosphere and story, so to allow players the chance to better enjoy both, I’ve been more forgiving in terms of survival. Hopefully, it’s not too hard still, but testers are agreeing with me so far.
Finally, I guess it’s worth mentioning that I’m intigrating a “Note” system akin to most horror games. By collecting and reading from a variety of sources found around the maps, you can find snippets of story between you and other possible characters, helping give some better setting and mood to the game as you progress. As well, they can give you hints on what to look for and what to use certain items for, as it can be difficult to figure out in some cases. Of course, none of this is manditory, but it’s there for those that would appriciate it.
Alright, that’s it for now. Plans are currently the finalize the second path and then go back and reorganize a few of the other mechanics to try and clean them up a bit. That way, I don’t have to worry about them later as I head into the second half of the game, where paths can diverge further and make it harder to manage.
Stay tuned for more, and have a great day. ;)
