Hi! Another update for you all! Progress has been pretty slow, been busy with other projects and my own personal life, but that isn't to say nothing has been happening for this!
I'll start with whats been done with the actual game, and the stuff i got done is pretty important, so, i'll just list them off 1 by 1.
Work on Skills For the Main Cast has been made!
Probably the most important thing I could be working on in regards to like, the CORE game, Most characters have a basic outline of what class they're gonna be, and Common, Albino & Ivy all have finished Skillsets, while Balloon's is a W.I.P, Focusing on those four cuz they're the ones who you'll get to mess around with in the Demo! that isn't to say the others have had NOTHING done for them, I've been brainstorming ideas for all of the cast, including the new additions, unlike albino, they've NEVER been playable before, I won't spoil who they are though :)
Updated Graphics
Oh my god this was very much needed, while I still think WoFG GBC holds up graphically somewhat, it 100% needed some graphical updates, Icon sets have been updated, some UI elements got some touch ups, and overall the game looks nicer since you last saw it, especially in the battlebacks, where...
Animated Battlebacks!!!
I'm serious! World of Freaking Goo is going to have animated environments, including its Battlebacks! Not all of them will be animated, that would simply be impractical, but little elements won't be stationary anymore! This is thanks to a script I had previously used simply for a glitch effect in Alter Realty in GBC3, now being repurposed for actual animated scenery, Don't look TOO close at some of them, to save on space for how many I want to do, they're not exactly done with much frames, so a lot of eye trickery is used, but I think it still works pretty well! While also related, this also means the world around you will be animated too, and not stationary, which is something I'm really excited for!
New Gameplay Loop
Instead of the Travel till you get to your destination, 49 out of 50 times it'd be a boss, you now have to clear out each island of its many pipes, each fight being based around the level its representing! The Story and Boss fights are now only sometimes connected! You'll have time to breathe and experience the story without having to constantly fight someone to get it! More changes include;
An increased Level Cap to accommodate for the increased game length
Chapters are back! Felt wrong to have a World of Goo game without them, don't worry, unlike The VX Ace Games, you can still backtrack to your hearts content, Games just split between Chapters for the plot
A nearly entirely Rewritten Plot, some stuff will remain the same, but nearly every single dialogue interaction has been changed in some way
Bonus Content has been reworked, while there's still some stuff lying around the islands, You'll be spending most of your time in the World of Goo Corporation for your bonus content, while the main Islands are reserved for the story content
That's about all I've gotten done/started work on in the actual project file, but that isn't to say I've been slacking in terms of ideas or Proof of Concepts, While not as much to say on this, I do have a few things in mind
The Five Chapters Plot Progress
Chapter 1: Less Plot heavy than the other Chapters, Kept mostly as an Introduction with some Plot in it, Almost Entirely set in stone its just a matter of implementing it for the Main Game and also the Chapter 1 Demo Release
Chapter 2: Nothing is set in stone, probably the Chapter I've thought about the least about, I have a sort of basic idea as to how the Island will look in my head but aside from that I'm not sure on what this Chapter will be like at all
Chapter 3: Basically Complete Plotwise, The maps for it have not been made but I have a clear Idea of how it will look, and how the plot will progress and how everything will play out, If I didn't need the other two chapters before it to be made before this, I'd say Chapter 3 would probably already be done
Chapter 4: Tons of Concepts are being thrown around, but I've got an idea for what I want Chapter 4 to be, It'll be something different, I know that much.
Epilogue: Complete Plotwise, Maps are visualized in my head, I'm not entirely sure if I'm still gonna do my "Post" Game ideas for it but, there's quite a bit set in stone for this part of the game
All in all, progress is going great, I don't know if the Chapter 1 Demo will be out in 2024, but I am pretty confident the full game will not be out till like, middle to late 2025, maybe early 2026 if I procrastinate on the project, there's still quite a bit that needs to be done, but I will keep you updated on the project! As for right now, this is all I have to share with you, so I'll be signing off now!
