(Chapter POV: Mouse)
We were sitting on a bench the night after being released from prison. We were in there because Spray Paint punched a cop while he was drunk. The cop was really nice, though - he gave us pillows for the night. It was the most comfortable we'd been for months, since we were homeless.
"Too bad we couldn't stay in there for longer," I thought aloud. "It was kinda cozy."
"Yeah, but hey," Spray Paint said. "At least we got this bench for tonight!"
Oh, Spray Paint, I thought. Always so positive.
"I guess this isn't the worst place to sleep," I added jokingly.
"We'll be sleeping in nice, big beds eventually," Spray Paint said.
I couldn't help but feel a bit down at that sentence. That was severe wishful thinking, especially since we weren't stealing things anymore and we couldn't find jobs. Still, though, I couldn't bring Spray Paint down with me.
"Definitely," I said instead of the contradictions that wanted to come out of my mouth. After all, he could be right. I just needed to wait a bit
I closed my eyes for a minute. It was peaceful in the park, which sounds weird because you'd expect people to be at the park. Then again, it was kinda chilly today.
I felt something land on my USB.
I opened my eyes to see a snowflake. It was snowing.
I looked to my left to see Spray Paint staring up, hope in his eyes.
I smiled a bit.
"I do hope one thing," I said.
"What's that?" Spray Paint asked.
I looked up at the sky, snow falling onto the ground.
"I hope I never have to leave you."
