First of all, I’d like to say thanks to all those who’ve played, commented, and/or followed Puxxel. o3o
Now then, I am planning on getting a smallish update out relatively soon, since there are a few bugs that need to be fixed. Additionally, there are some highly requested features that I plan on adding. However, the purpose of this news article isn’t simply to announce the update but to get some user feedback on these new features. There’s no guarantee that all suggestions will be added, as this isn’t meant to be a large-scale update (maybe I’ll do something like that in the future). Anyway, here are some of the stuff I’m going to add/fix:
Undo Button
The most highly requested feature was an undo button. I’ve made some mention in the comments as to how this feature will work, but here’s a quick overview. Undos will essentially be unlimited, however for each undo you use there will be a time penalty that increases per undo (I’m not sure exactly how much). Essentially, this should result in less ragequitting, unless if you’re aiming to complete the time challenge.
In regards to the time challenge, I may raise the time to allow at least a few undos. Not sure about this, though.
Alternate Controls
Another common complaints was that the controls are cluttered. While I’ll retain the current set of controls, I’ll also be adding keyboard controls for the right hand (assuming you’re using your left hand for WASD). Movement and shooting will be on the left side (WAD). For the other hand, J and K will replicate Q and E respectively. Additionally, L will show or hide the hint image.
Better Saving/Loading
While not something that has appeared much, apparently the saving/loading for the HTML5 version is not exactly reliable on GameJolt. Not sure if it’s a problem with GM:S or simply the way HTML5 games work on GJ, but sometimes the file doesn’t load (and it will end up being rewritten, thereby resetting game data). The executable version works fine, so I won’t be changing the way it handles saving/loading there. On the other hand, I’ll utilise GameJolt’s userdata stuff for HTML5. Unfortunately, that will mean that those who don’t have a GJ account won’t be able to save their game data, but it’s the easiest compromise I can make to ensure game data is retained.
There are some other stuff I’ll be fixing. I’ve gotten some comments about the lack of direction within the game (at least, how to play the actual game), so I’ll try to get something to better show the game controls. For now, the objective and controls of the game are in the about page of the extras sub-menu, if you need them.
I’m aiming on getting this update out relatively soon. It shouldn’t take more than a week, I predict. Once again, thanks for all the positive feedback. o3o
