"Quick" Update Regarding GB Violet's Release


I'll keep this rather simple, unfortunately GB Violet will not be releasing tomorrow as I'd hoped. While I do still think it could've been done by then, I don't want to hound the few people I need things from during the holidays. Perhaps my holidays aren't the busiest, but I know that isn't the case for everyone. Even then, I haven't had as much time as I've wanted to work on the game, and I don't want to rush the final area of the game

As an apology for missing yet another deadline, I'll post some more of the game's music, some more screenshots, and perhaps another gameplay video (albeit a shorter one) at some point tomorrow.

Anyways, if it's not coming out tomorrow, then when is it? While I'd like to say that it'll still come out before the end of the year, I honestly don't know. Here's a quick rundown on what's left to do:

  • More work on the final area. The most complex parts have been completed now, but there's still some more pieces to work on. It's around 50% done gameplay-wise, but realistically probably anywhere from 60%-70% of the work needed for it is done, and I feel pretty good about getting this finished by the end of the week.

  • The final boss fight, which, while it shouldn't be too herculean an effort, will still require a decent amount of work to get right.

  • Ending sequences + ???, this is where most of what I need from other members on the team lays. This, more than anything else, is what led me to delay the game. There are multiple things I could have done to get around these issues, but there's a few bits that heavily relies on some of the work that'll go into the ending sequences in order to get the effect I'm going for.

  • Testing and polishing. I've been having a few folks test bits of the game throughout its development (and they've helped catch some pretty big issues,) and I'd like to get a few playthroughs of the full game before I feel super confident with it, especially from at least one person who hasn't played the game at all, and that of course requires having the game be fully playable beforehand. Alongside that, some areas of the game certainly need a bit of touching up to bring them more in-line with the quality of the later parts of the game.

Once the game's at the point of final testing and polishing, I'll throw together a trailer and give y'all a release date. Will that be in 3 days? A week? (Hopefully not) a month? I'm not entirely sure yet. Trying to rush myself to get the game out was a bad idea, and I've decided that I'm making this game the best I reasonably can before releasing it. One example of that, which you can kind of see in the screenshot, is fixing up some visual issues that have plagued the game from the very start. I'm ultimately much happier with how the game looks as a whole now.

I've got so much I'd like to talk about regarding GB Violet, so much so that I've already started writing the next devlog that I'm planning to release alongside GB Violet. Hopefully you can bear waiting just a little longer for the game to release just I've Persevered through making it for nearly half a year now!!! A huge thanks to both the members on the team who have provided for the game in ways I haven't been able to and to all of you for your interest in this little side project I embarked on one day.
