Three Years Later...

Man, remember when I said these would be monthly?

So much has changed since the last devlog. The person we based 90% of our jokes around quit YouTube, new projects have been started, released, and cancelled, Deltarune is ACTUALLY coming out... (I'm actually writing this on the 3rd. If you're reading this, then Chapters 3 and 4 are already out! I hope they're cool. (EDIT: Finalizing this on the 5th. Yeah, they're cool.))

Since it's been so long since the last devlog, let's get right to it:

We're basically starting over.

What?????????? Okay, let me explain in detail.

Speaking of Deltarune coming out... the demo has gone through a lot of under-the-hood changes since the last devlog, specifically regarding some dark magics only known by whispers... "game_change()".
(That's the internal function that lets Deltarune essentially have all of the Chapters be separate "games".)

With all of these changes and with how much time has passed, when we all came together to talk EELS earlier this year, the call was pretty quickly made. Some fan (and our) favorites like Eteled and Pac-Man will stay, but since we have to redo most things anyway, we figured it was time to get rid of a lot of the bits that haven't aged as well as we would've liked. And since it's been 3 years, that's 3 more years of experience we have under our belts, so that means greater levels of polish. And that's not accounting for all of the NEW things we're adding too - previously, we had to pick and choose what to reskin since we only had a month of dev time start to finish, but now we want to do EVERYTHING since we have the time to do so!

The current game plan is this: A full reskin of Chapters 1 and 2, plus some pre- and post-game extra content. If we can pull it off!

I'm very confident in our ability to figure it out, but I don't want to declare anything as fully set in stone until we actually get things implemented. We're currently deep in the idea and design stage, and once we have everything drafted out, that will probably be when Devlog 3 arrives. (So you won't have to wait three years again...)

Okay, let's wrap up with some last few things, and then we're going back in our cave for a couple months.

With how the schedule is panning out, it's looking like we'll be able to shift 100% of our focus to EELS in the fall. (Yes, I said we'd be doing that six months ago. Out of our control.) Until then, it's pure Ideas Zone, and then after that we'll have new stuff to show off!

Also, Chapter 3 and 4 are now out, but the mod will still be just for the demo. Some of the new plot revelations from it have affected previous plans, so we have to figure out how to work around them. For now, just treat EELS like it's from an alternate timeline... There might be some allusions to content from Chapters 3 and 4, but they don't exist here. You don't have to play them if you don't want to. (But you still should - think of it like how playing Undertale before Deltarune is recommended, but not required.)

Okay! That's all from me. I've got a very busy few months ahead of me, even beyond Eel-related tasks. Keep an eye out if you're interested, and if you aren't, that's cool.
