It’s no mystery that Scratch is not doing so hot. Heck, the only thing keeping it alive are the sheer amount of Scratchtubers, like me for example, and the 10% of the fan base who aren’t bots or babies.
And obviously, the reasons why it’s falling off have something to do with the site… specifically, it’s moderation.
We all know and understand Scratch is a place for all ages. But it’s been for all ages. For the past 20 or so years. It is still a great place for learning how to code, but there’s also Scratch junior, a far superior option if you have 8.3 brain cells and classify as a toddler.
Anyways, why not turn Scratch junior into that kid friendly stuff, and turn Scratch into a higher-audience platform. Let’s be real. Most people who started Scratch as kids have moved on. What better way to keep the old people around than to appeal to them too? It’s such a simple option, yet the clowns at the Scratch HQ are too busy adding the thumbnail feature…
Not only that, but the fact that Scratch has so many people on the site, and over half of them are complaining about their moderation and STILL aren’t doing anything about it is absurd. Bots are not a good thing. I mean sure they are efficient and probably cheaper, but it still doesn’t stop them from taking down projects that
1. Aren’t even that out-of-line in terms of guidelines
2.Are following the guidelines, but end up getting taken down because of a mistake
It’s unfair. It’s stupid. It’s disgusting. And worst of all, it’s disappointing.
Overall, I’m sure there’s no convincing the Scratch team, since they’ve been ignoring us for years, but I seriously hope they at least make an attempt to fix these issues, and maybe people won’t want to quit their site every 5 seconds.
Phew, that was an ARTICLE. That’s going in the museum of historical artifacts under the category “time wasting documents”.
