So, today has been pretty darn productive! We’ve been working on a number of different bits and pieces associated with generation:
Random House Generation
We developed a zone-based structures system a while back, but have only recently began to use it to generate NPC houses. The system works by mapping out potential zones of different types based on a number of rules, then filling those zones.
We haven’t gotten very far with filling the houses, or placing content within, though the general structure is getting there:
We’ve opted to make houses larger than they had previously been. Before we had a number of reservations about making houses to large. Namely that houses suffered from the issue of being hard to spawn into the world.
Decorators
Other work has also been done in developing decorator scripts which can be used to generate little scenarios, or spawn in detail throughout the world.
This is a mock-up of a wild-western themed mine entrance. These mini scenarios will serve as an opportunity to gather loot. Though some may come paired with bandits, or outlaws!
